中國科技樹包含了進口或設計自20世紀中華民國和中華人民共和國的戰車。中國共產黨生產的戰車往往裝備有大口徑的砲管，但也為此付出了相當的代價。

中國戰車的發展有三個階段：

1950年以前中國的戰車均屬於中華民國陸軍，而其供應仰賴法國（Renault NC31）、英國（Vickers Mk.E B）和美國（M5A1 Stuart）進口，以及第二次世界大戰後從日本接收的戰車（Chi-Ha）。中國科技樹上的戰車直到VI階都有這樣特質。1950年代初期中共深受其他國家的影響，較著名的有T-34和IS-2，它們由蘇聯提供設計和援助以便在中國本地生產製造。1950年代後期，中共透過修改蘇聯T-54戰車的設計自行研發。Type-59主力戰車和Type-62輕型戰車是中國最早量產的戰車。而中國VI階加值戰車Type-64則是由國軍生產製造，源自美國輕型戰車的血統讓它保留該系列戰車最為著稱的特性：敏捷的速度和裝填快速的火砲。而國軍則是由美國提供的車輛與設計發展出自己的特色，如M24A1、Type-65、M41D、CM11、M108/T65等。

中共戰車最主要的特色是有無與倫比的機動性、良好的隱蔽值和傾斜裝甲。因此，無論是重型、中型還是輕型戰車，中國戰車在操作上都不會太困難。它們仍然可以表現出原來的特性，但必要時它們也能夠轉換自己在戰場上的定位。然而，比起德國和蘇聯戰車還要糟糕的俯角卻是它們的致命傷，容易損壞而且暴露在外的零組件更是一大缺點，這使得乘組員暴露在危險之中，履帶和引擎也經常損壞與發生火災，最嚴重的是引起彈藥架爆炸。慶幸的是，中共戰車雖然有脆弱的車體裝甲，但砲塔裝甲卻堅固許多，甚至比一些重型戰車的車體裝甲還要可靠。

中共的輕型戰車是一群快速敏捷並有著高穿透能力與精準度火砲的戰士。相形之下，它們更像是中型戰車，不過它們薄弱的裝甲證明離成為中型戰車還有一段距離。

中共的中型戰車在某種程度上跟蘇聯中型戰車十分類似，兼具了機動性與火力，相對的裝填時間較久，俯角也較差。到了高階之後，它們比起蘇聯中型戰車有更可怕的破壞力，不過能力則不如蘇聯中型戰車一般全面。

中共的重型戰車也是從蘇聯發展而來，這些戰車具備了兼顧的正面裝甲、加速度較好以及較佳的輸出效率，使得它們可以擔任「重」中型戰車的角色，高階的中國重型戰車則更著重於機動性。
