The Jagdpanther II is a German Tier VIII Tank Destroyer.

A proposed Tank Destroyer that looked at initially using the Panther II as the basis, this idea was known as "8,8cm Sturmgeschütz auf Fahrgestell Panther". When the proposal for the Panther II tank was scrapped, another concept came along, that of the "Jagdpanther mit 12,8cm PaK 80". Neither of these two proposals came to fruition, and no vehicle was ever produced even as a prototype. Note that "Jagdpanther II" is a misnomer; no vehicle ever existed at any stage under that name.

The Jagdpanther II is one of the better Tank Destroyers in the game, thanks to a superb top gun, excellent superstructure armor, and great mobility. It can be a sniper, it can "hull down" effectively, it can be a flanker, and is even a half way decent brawler. Truly a flexible Tank Destroyer and a highly dangerous one.

The Jagdpanther II leads to the Jagdtiger.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Excellent gun in the 12,8cm Pak 44 L/55; great Alpha DMG, great Penetration, great Accuracy, good Aim Time
  • Great Mobility; great terrain resistance, good acceleration, good top speed, good track traverse
  • Great guns from stock to elite
  • Great superstructure armour
  • Good View Range

Cons:

  • Poor Camouflage values
  • Large silhouette
  • Poor hull armour; especially weak lower glacis typical of many German vehicles
  • Somewhat poor gun depression and gun arc
  • Small area near the mantlet is actually a weak spot, although not easy to hit

Performance

The JagdPanther II is a very versatile TD and it can fit and perform adequately in pretty much every situation. It's not limited to sniping and supporting the main force like typical tank destroyers, but can also be used as a brawler and flanker if needed. You can even wolfpack with mediums and support them with your firepower if you want. The 12,8cm gun can easily penetrate any tier 8 and below without any trouble. Another good thing is because of your agility, it is harder for a medium tank to circle you.

However do note it's weaknesses; tall stature and poor hull armour. Due to its size, it has mediocre camouflage value (on par with same tier mediums) and thus is easily spotted. Since most TD's have great camo values, try your best to remember you do not, and plan accordingly. It has similar hull armour to the Panther II, but exceptional superstructure armour. To maximize survivability, try to use hull down tactics as much as possible, and if the hull armor is exposed, angle it or wiggle it during reloads. When proper tactics are used, the chance of bouncing is greatly increased.

Overall, it's a very fun tank to play, and in the hands of a skilled player that knows how to maximize it's strengths, it is easily one of the most feared tanks in tier 8.

Historical Info

A proposed Tank Destroyer that looked at initially using the Panther II as the basis, this idea was known as "8,8cm Sturmgeschütz auf Fahrgestell Panther". When the proposal for the Panther II tank was scrapped, another concept came along, that of the "Jagdpanther mit 12,8cm PaK 80". Neither of these two proposals came to fruition, and no vehicle was ever produced even as a prototype. Note that "Jagdpanther II" is a misnomer; no vehicle ever existed at any stage under that name. In-game, WG took the Krupp design of 1944, that of the Jagdpanther mit 12,8cm PaK 80, and married it to the Panther II chassis. The original proposal based on the Panther II chassis did not have a 12,8cm gun, but instead proposed an 8,8cm L/71 gun. So the in-game vehicle is a mashing together of the two proposals.
