Salernum

Jump to: navigation, search

Scipio Africanus had a string of garrison towns built across southern Italy to defend it from rebellious tribes. Founded in 197 BC in the aftermath of the Second Punic War, Salernum was one such Roman coastal garrison. Over time, it became an important trade centre.\n\nProsperous and lively, the growing town was connected to Rome by the Via Popilia, making it ideally placed for sea trade along the Italian west coast, Sicily, North Africa and Sardinia. Under Emperor Diocletian, Salernum became the administrative capital of the Lucania et Brutii province.

  • This map is divided into three parts: the city of Salernum in the south, fields of grain and vines in the centre, and a forested hilly area in the north. *The city is a key path into the enemy base. It offers cover from artillery fire and its many roads allow fast and stealthy movement.
  • Control the central watchtower to find enemies hiding in the tall grass and forests nearby.
  • The size of this map can make it difficult to get back and defend your base in time.
