Description
Development was carried out by Research Institute No. 100. The design project was submitted in February–March 1954. The tank entered service and underwent modernization 25 years later. It was equipped with minesweepers, additional fuel tanks, explosive reactive armor, a smoke grenade launcher, and the most advanced gun targeting system. The "Oplot-MO" anti-rocket defense system was mounted to the vehicle's turret. In addition, the tank featured deep water fording equipment.
