Commander Bio:
Jisaburō Ozawa (1886-1966) was a vice admiral of the Imperial Japanese Navy. He rose from the position of junior officer on battleship Mikasa to serve as captain of heavy cruiser Maya and later, battleship Haruna. In the late 1930s, he was among the first to recognize the potential of carrier forces, proposing their use as a single powerful fleet capable of delivering devastating airstrikes
In the first months of the Pacific War, Ozawa led naval operations in Malaya, Java, and Sumatra, and in 1942, conducted a successful raid in the Bay of Bengal. In 1944, he commanded the First Mobile Fleet, Japan's most combat-ready unit, but U.S. naval superiority brought defeats in the Philippine Sea and at Leyte Gulf. In 1945, he became the last commander-in-chief of the Combined Fleet.
