Prototipo de tanque pesado. Desarrollado por la compañía Henschel und Sohn como parte de un programa de tanque pesado. Se construyó un prototipo en 1938. Sin embargo, en septiembre de 1939 se prefirió el proyecto VK 30.01 y el programa DW se canceló de manera oficial. Sin embargo, los prototipos DW I y DW II fueron muy usados en pruebas hasta 1941.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

• Thick side and rear hull armor.
• APCR is very effective, unlike the B1
• Tier V maximum matchmaking
• Effective sidescraping
• Pretty good traverse speed with a 75% + crew

Cons:

• Frontal hull armor isn't very thick nor does it have slope, so if you want to shine in this tank, you'll have to learn how to
• Penetration is inadequate for tier 4 unless using APCR/HEAT
• Poor gun selection for a heavy tank
• Poor maneuverability especially when stock
• Low camo rating

Performance

Due to its fairly thin armor, it is recommended to avoid taking fire whenever possible. Sidescraping is good with the 50mm side plate and should be used whenever the situation calls for taking hits or holding a choke point. Hull down is also effective due to the top turret being fairly well armored with a good mantlet but cannot be relied upon to block any guns with high penetration such as those used by tank destroyers. If caught in the open, try to angle the tank at approximately 40-45 degrees to the enemy. With proper angling the tank becomes somewhat resilient to many guns that normally could pen the front head on.

The tank is best used at medium ranges, as the most accurate weapon, the 50mm KwK 39 L/60 lacks the accuracy to be effective at extreme ranges but can hit weakspots from close to mid range. The 75mm KwK 37 L/24 is best used in short range fighting, but is generally not the preferred choice due to low penetration for a tier IV heavy tank.

Since all of the weapons lack penetration, flanking or targeting weakspots is essential. Flanking is effective but not very viable due to very low camo ratings and a lack of both speed and agility. If one's budget allows it, APCR can really turn this tank into a deadly machine due to the very good penetration of 130mm, enough to go through the front of almost any tank, up to tier V when aimed at the correct spot.

Overall this tank should be played as a support heavy as its armor and maneuverability are both lacking. The guns have low penetration but can be viable when targeting weakspots or using APCR/HEAT. Stay behind the main push, let heavier tanks take damage, and support the team.
