Their downside is the lack of armor, allowing them to be torn to pieces under concentrated or extended fire rather easily.

Japanese fighters are currently the only planes in the Japan tech tree. They are rather agile and nimble, but have weak armor. If one is on your back, it can be hard to shake, but if one is ahead of you, it will not be too difficult to take down.
