Update 0.11.6: British Battleships

British Battleships: Part 1

Features of the New Ships

Equipped with torpedoes and main guns that do not have a particularly long range of fire, the new sea giants will show their worth at medium- to knife-duel distances. The Repair Party consumable they have on board regenerates a large amount of the lost HP.

The battleships carry HE shells with a standard penetration capacity and an average accuracy score, and the AP shells they fire have a typically British short fuse time. They are also less likely to over-penetrate and are therefore more efficient against lightly armored targets. Additionally, the main batteries are solid enough, with calibers reaching 457 mm at Tier X.

The ships are equipped with Engine Boost starting from Tier V and Defensive AA Fire from Tier VI. Repair Party is replaced by Specialized Repair Teams at Tier IX.

Early Access

III Indefatigable is available via paid daily bundles. You can obtain only one bundle per day for Doubloons 150 Doubloons out of a total of 12.

IV Queen Mary, V Tiger, VI Renown, VII Rooke, and VIII Hawke are available via sequential bundles for British Tokens. You can obtain as many as 1,010 British Tokens for free. This will be enough to grab Rooke and the permanent camouflage for Hawke — which only changes the ship's exterior and doesn't provide economic or combat bonuses.

  • 760 Tokens for participation in the Industry Titans event
  • 50 Tokens in free daily bundles
  • 200 Tokens for Community Tokens

You can also find British Tokens in random bundles available in exchange for Doubloons.

Upon obtaining all available sequential bundles, you will be able to acquire X St. Vincent in exchange for Doubloons 20,000 Doubloons.

IX Duncan is available via paid random bundles. We're offering 70 bundles at Doubloons 1,000 Doubloons each.

With the release of Update 0.11.8, British battleships will become available for all players to research. British Tokens will be converted into Credits at the rate of 1:18,000.

Industry Titans

Starts: Wed. Jul. 13 3:00 AM PT / your local time: Wed. Jul. 13 5:00 AM
Ends: Wed. Aug. 10 3:00 AM PT / your local time: Wed. Aug. 10 5:00 AM

The Chatham, Elswick, and Clydebank shipyards will compete for the right to be called the best shipbuilder serving the needs of the Royal Navy.

Make your choice and lend your support to one of the shipyards! Keep in mind that each shipyard will be offering its own unique reward: one British Commander with 6 skill points, a researchable British Tier V ship ( V Hawkins, V Emerald, or V Acasta), and a special achievement.

Participation in the event will also reward you with British Tokens, which can be spent on purchasing sequential bundles with British battleships, special permanent camouflages, and economic bonuses, as well as other rewards.

Details about the rules of the event, its rewards, and other info are available in the game client.

The Port of London has been updated to celebrate the event.

French Cruisers in the Tech Tree

The main feature of the new ships is their large-caliber guns (relative to the ship type) mounted on their bows. While they reload slowly, this is compensated for by the Main Battery Reload Booster consumable. The new ships are capable of achieving high speeds with the help of the improved "French-specific" Engine Boost consumable. The ships' armor does a great job in protecting their citadels against medium-caliber AP shells, but the new cruisers are quite vulnerable against HE and SAP shells. Medium and long ranges are optimal for engagements, but with the help of their 139 mm secondary battery guns with improved accuracy, the new ships can also show their worth in close-range encounters.

New Ships

  • VIII Cherbourg is a project of a super-heavy cruiser, close to the Dunkerque-class ships, with her main armament comprising eight 305 mm guns.
  • IX Brest is a cruiser with 330 mm main battery guns concentrated at the bow. Her AA artillery comprises Bofors and Oerlikon automatic guns.
  • X Marseille is a super-heavy cruiser with a displacement of over 30,000 tons. Her main armament comprises nine 330 mm guns placed in three turrets at the ship's bow.

When Update 0.11.6 goes live, the French cruisers will become available for all players to research.

Separation of Exterior Visuals and Economic Bonuses

The in-game economy is one of the key components of World of Warships. It's been almost seven years since the game went live, but the economy has remained unchanged in key aspects ever since. Over time, a lot of issues well worth tweaking or improving have emerged.

Update 0.11.6 kicks off a major overhaul of the economic component of the game by separating visuals and economic bonuses.

While working on the Update, we aimed to achieve several goals:

  • Offer an option to select economic bonuses and camouflages separately.
  • Simplify management of economic bonuses.
  • Make sure the transition from the old system to the new one is as comfortable as possible.
  • Maintain the current state of the in-game economy.

We have improved the interface, bonus management, Inventory display, and much more! The key principle behind this effort was that you as players do not lose in your overall earnings. In certain scenarios, you actually gain even more than before.

This change, along with the addition of the new in-game entity, entails a revision of all in-game rewards. In combat missions, campaigns, operations, and collections, economic and special signals will be replaced with bonuses. Camouflages will also be supplemented or replaced with bonuses.

The contents of all containers that drop economic signals, special signals, or camouflages will also change. [see Containers for the new contents and drop rates. -Ed.]

Along with the changes to the interface and economy, we’ve also updated the resource, signal, and camouflage icons in the game interface.

A detailed list of changes is available in a separate article on our website.

Interface Changes

Update 0.11.6 brings a number of improvements to the Minimap and Tactical Map:

  • An option has been added to use quick commands by clicking on icons in the Minimap and Tactical Map.
  • The Minimap settings window has been updated, and the ability to disable circles for main battery guns and torpedoes has been added.

Container Management UI

The cargo ship in the Port also received a number of improvements:

  • The cargo ship now offers an option to view all available containers grouped by type and open containers of the selected type.
  • We've added information about container contents and drop chances of items.
  • The maximum number of containers stored by a player has been increased. Players can now have up to 9,999 containers on their account, but no more than 100 of each type. Containers received over the limit will be opened automatically.

Spectator Mode

We've enhanced the Spectator Mode interface displayed once your ship is sunk. We've updated the hotkey block and added new hints for controlling the camera and in the exit confirmation window.

AI of Bots a.k.a. Bot Brain Buff

We've substantially upgraded the AI behind our bot ships used in Training and Co-op Battles:

  • We've enhanced the AI responsible for bots moving, firing, and using consumables in Training Battles.
  • In Co-op Battles, AI-controlled aircraft carriers will now move to the nearest capture point if less than 30% of the carrier's surviving allies are left in battle.
  • Bots will now be less likely to ram one another or run into islands in Co-op Battles. We've also enhanced the autopilot.

Updated USN Destroyer Models

Update 0.11.6 sees the second stage of updates to U.S. destroyer models. The models of VII Sims & Sims B, II Sampson, III Wickes, IV Clemson, V Nicholas, and VI Farragut have been revamped.

Updating the models will slightly affect the physical parameters of ships, aiming angles of torpedo launchers and main battery guns, AA defenses, and distribution of HP across ship parts. The changes will not have a significant impact on the balance of ships.

Naval Base

We've added a new structure — Special Projects Complex. It will provide economic bonuses to superships.

  • Level 1: +10% to Ship XP earned when playing superships. The cost of purchase is 80,000 Oil.
  • Level 2: –15% to the cost of purchasing superships. The cost of purchase is 160,000 Oil.

Division Star

During the update, players will be able to earn Division Stars—special bonuses issued for playing together with each Clanmate.

  • You can get a Division Star by playing in a Division with your Clanmates in all battle types except Training Battles.
  • Certain numbers of earned Stars unlock access to various rewards.
  • If you switch Clans, any Stars and rewards you previously received remain with you.
  • To see the roster of Clanmates you can team up with in a Division and the list of rewards you can get, navigate to the Division Star tab in the Clans section.

By playing together with each of your Clanmates, you can get a total of up to three Stars—one for each fulfilled condition:

  • Winning a battle.
  • Earning the Shoulder to Shoulder Division achievement.
  • Earning the Coordinated Attack achievement.

Armory

With the release of the Update, VII Collingwood will arrive in the Armory. The battleship's main armament is six 419 mm guns. They are concentrated in three turrets in the ship's bow, similar to the Nelson-class battleships. The ship can be obtained via random bundles available for Doubloons. In future updates, she will become available for purchase separately.

The Ahead of the Future permanent camouflage for X Incomparable has been added and made available in exchange for 10 Ranked Tokens.

Due to the separation of exterior visuals and economic bonuses, economic signals and expendable camouflages in the Customizations section have been replaced by sets with expendable economic bonuses, which are available in exchange for Coal.

All permanent camouflages for researchable ships, all expendable camouflages, and the Signal Spoils bundle will no longer be available in the Naval Community section. The tab will be replenished with sets with economic bonuses, as well as the new More Camouflages container.

In August, a new permanent coupon will be added, which gives a discount on the purchase of economic bonuses for Coal. The coupon can be used four times until its next reset.

Ship Features

We've updated the block with the description of the ship features.

  • Each ship page now has a detailed description of the distinct strengths and weaknesses that determine the ship’s game play and distinguish her from other ships of the same type and tier. For example—a fast main battery reload time is a special feature for a battleship, but access to the standard Repair Party is not. In addition to strengths and weaknesses, "neutral" features are now also highlighted, such as the presence of deepwater torpedoes or SAP shells. The new format is similar to the description of ship branch features in the Tech Tree tab.
  • When hovering over a ship card in the Armory, a tooltip has been added with a brief list of the ship's key features.

New descriptions of the ship features contain all the basic information without an in-depth immersion in the technical specifications. They are designed to help players who do not want to study the ship's characteristics in detail.

Detailed characteristics of ships are still available in the game client in the Armory for old-timers of World of Warships.

Content Changes and Additions

The update brings the following items to the game:

  • Industrial permanent camouflage for VIII Hawke, IX Duncan, and X St. Vincent
  • British Commanders Charlie Chatham, Eddie Elswick, and Kyle Clydebank
  • British Battleships, Anchors, Sextant, Álvaro de Bazán, Anhalt, I-56, and Wind Rose flags
  • Industry Titans achievement
  • New daily More Camouflages container

A total of 72 new camouflages — which only change the ship's exterior and don't provide economic or combat bonuses — have been added to the Distant Voyages container.

New ships have been added to the Premium Ship IX container.

The More Credits container has been renamed to the More Economic Rewards container.
