History
Battleship - PoltavaPoltava is based on the Soviet Type “B” battleship design. When the Soviet navy began to ask for large ship designs in 1935, they asked for two battleship designs and one heavy cruiser design. Eventually, only one of the battleship designs and the heavy cruiser design were chosen for development. By then, the heavy cruiser design was built up into a full battleship, though it was smaller. Thus it was dubbed the Type “B” battleship.
Poltava, or the Type “B” battleship, was heavily influenced by Italian ship design like much of the 1930s Russian ships. In essence, she was based on the UP.41 battleship design that eventually became the Littorio-class, sharing many similar features. Created to counter the Dunkerque and Scharnhorst class ships, Poltava carries nine 356mm guns in triple turrets, heavy armor, and has a good turn of speed. However, the design was very heavy at an estimated 53,000 tons and quite long, which translates into poor maneuverability in-game.
Poltava was designed with an ice-breaker bow, making it difficult to damage the lower portion of her bow armor. She was never built, though lessons learned in the design was used for later Russian ships.
