Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

The Marder 38T is a German tier 4 tank destroyer.

Desarrollado sobre el chasis del Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t).

The Marder 38T leads to the StuG III Ausf. B, and the Pz.Sfl. IVc.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Fast rate of fire
  • Wide gun traverse arc
  • Fast aim time
  • Decent penetration

Cons:

  • Paper thin armor, easily oneshotted by howitzers.
  • Low gun elevation / depression.

Performance

The Marder 38T is an extremely fun tank to play, having high DPM, fast aim time, good accuracy, and acceptable penetration. With a 75% crew and the top gun, your reload time is only 3 seconds! This tank is best played as a sniper, laying on the DPM from afar. Because of its high fire rate and decent penetration (The penetration is nearly equal to the top gun on the Pz.Kpfw. III/IV), it remains effective even in tier 6 matches. Although its frontal armor is rated at 50mm (Only 10mm less than the infamous Hetzer), it has little effectiveness, as it has little sloping and the gun shield is large and thin. To compare this tank's gun to the M3 Lee's (Which also has high DPM) would show that it has better accuracy, aim time, and much better penetration. Although at first glance the 3rd gun looks nearly identical to the 2nd gun, it has better accuracy, aim time, and RoF. The main tanks you want to watch out for are the British AT series and any tanks with "derp" guns, i.e. the Hetzer, M4 Sherman, and the tier 3 and 4 British TDs. The mobility of this tank is average, but it can go surprisingly fast downhill. To wrap it up, this tank has spectacular DPM, good accuracy, decent penetration, good mobility, and bad armor.

Early Research

  • The 7,5 cm Pak 40/2 L/46 and FuG 8 carry over from the Marder II. Mount them immediately.
  • You have to research the suspension to mount any new modules.
  • Research the engines. They aren't too expensive and provide a nice mobility boost.
  • Now, research the gun. It is the same as the 7,5 cm Pak 40/2 L/46, but with more accuracy, faster aim time, and higher RoF.
  • Finally, research the Pz.Sfl. IVc.

Historical Accuracy Errata

The following are consensus errors or inconsistencies which have been identified with the configuration of the vehicle in question and conflict with information available on the public record. The causes for these divergences in the game are normally not disclosed and may be rooted in game balance.

The tank is actually known as the Marder III Ausf. H. It was never called Marder 38T.
  • The 7,62 cm Pak 36 (r) gun was actually used on a different Marder III variant, the Sd.Kfz. 139. This vehicle is currently not in the game.
  • The Ausf. M suspension is actually referring to a different Marder III variant with the fighting compartment in the rear, similar to the Grille. The tank's current model is an Ausf. H.
