Performance
Albany has sub-par gun range, but that doesn't prevent her from being able to stand her ground when used well. She is quite maneuverable and is best suited to a play style resembling that of American destroyers; that is, going around island in a bid to remain in cover and strike at the enemy that doesn't expect you. In the hands of a capable captain, this ship remains a respectable threat, being able to damage most ships at tier I.
History
USS Albany (CL-23) was an American protected cruiser, originally built in Britain for the Brazilian Navy as Almirante Abreu. Purchased while still under construction in Great Britain, she was slightly reworked to take into account the experience the US navy had with her sister ship USS New Orleans, commissioned two years earlier.
After entering service, USS Albany was assigned to the Asiatic fleet to take part in the Philippine–American war (1899-1902) where she’ll stay active until 1904, when she was ordered home to be decommissioned. She was rearmed with new secondary 5 inch/127mm guns and returned to service in 1907, this time in the Pacific fleet. Transferred again into the Asiatic fleet in 1910, USS Albany returned home in 1913 to be placed into reserve. Recommissioned one year later, she was deployed into Mexican water to support the US forces during the United States occupation of Veracruz (1914, Mexican Revolution) before returning to reserve the same year. In 1916, she was recommissioned once again and transferred to the Atlantic fleet where she became a squadron flagship after the United States entry into the world war (1914-1918). Between 1919 and 1921, USS Albany was reassigned again to the Asiatic Fleet before returning home in 1922 to be put into reserve. It was her last decommissioning, as she was placed on sale in 1929, and stricken from the Navy list the same year. She was sold for scrap in 1930, alongside her sistership New Orleans and both were demolished in San Francisco.
In World of Warships Legends, USS Albany is represented in her final configuration, with a classic colour scheme for 1900-1910 US cruisers (the same colour scheme is visible on the museum ship USS Olympia at Philadelphia, USA), with a white hull and buff structures.
The naming of her main battery appears to be the only non-historical aspect of the ship. Indeed, Albany is indicated as equipped with six 152mm Mk6 guns, where in history she was equipped with British-built Mk5 guns. It appears that this is an error coming from the PC version of World of Warships, the guns of Albany having been mistakenly described as Mk6 at the time before being corrected to Mk5. Visually, these are indeed Armstrong's 152mm Mk5 guns.
