This is an alternative project to the one proposed for the cruiser in 1939—it retained nine 9.45-inch (240 mm) guns, offered appropriate armor and speed, but required a larger displacement. Thanks to her high speed, such a cruiser could avoid engaging her enemies if she so wished while also being able to stand up against several Japanese battlecruisers due to her enhanced armament and armor. However, this project was never implemented either, and further work shifted toward designing a heavy cruiser with 11.14-inch (283 mm) main battery guns.
