Update 13.1: Lunar New Year

Update 13.1 delivers the following:

Submarine and ASW Updates

As we have announced previously, we are working on solving major problems with submarine interactions, and we are now ready to share some details about changes to submarines and ASW in Update 13.1! With these changes, we aim to create more consistent interactions between submarines and surface ships while still maintaining the current level of combat effectiveness of submarines.

First, we are making a few changes to surface ship ASW:

  • Depth Charges are being replaced with Depth Charge Airstrike for the Ersatz naval ensign of the Kreigsmarine (1935-1945) X Hindenburg and Naval ensign of Italy (1861–1946) X Venezia branches (except V Montecuccoli), as well as for Ersatz naval ensign of the Kreigsmarine (1935-1945) VIII Prinz Eugen and IX Schröder.
  • We are also increasing the Depth Charge Airstrike range for Tier V and VII battleships.
  • Depth Charge Airstrike for Tier V – VII battleships and cruisers will have a shorter cooldown.
  • Additionally, for Tier V and VI battleships and cruisers, the bomb damage will be slightly reduced. This means that you will be able to use Depth Charge Airstrike more often but with a lower damage output per attack.
    • Ships that currently have special ASW settings will not receive any changes unless specifically noted.
  • Depth Charge Airstrike range will be increased for Flag of the United States of America X Ohio, Flag of the United Kingdom X Thunderer, Flag of the French Republic IX Jean Bart, and IX Jean Bart B. It will become similar to the ranges for other battleships at their tiers.
  • The Naval ensign of Italy (1861–1946) X Venezia, Flag of Japan X Zaō, and Flag of Japan X Yodo branches will receive the Submarine Surveillance consumable in a separate slot.

As for submarine changes, the Hydrophone consumable now works differently:

  • The consumable will allow submarines to immediately highlight ships in range, regardless of terrain (similar to Hydroacoustic Search and Surveillance Radar).
  • The consumable can be activated in any state, but it will only reveal ships that are at periscope depth or on the surface.
  • When submarines use Hydrophone to reveal ships above them and in their line of sight, static silhouettes of these ships will appear for a short period (about 6 seconds) and then disappear.
    • Ships behind terrain will be indicated as a short flash without a silhouette.

A collision warning message will now appear for submerged submarines when there is another submarine underwater within 2 kilometers. This message will appear even if the enemy submarine is not spotted, and it will disappear as soon as the opponent leaves the 2-kilometer radius or resurfaces.

Finally, to balance out the changes to ASW, we are improving the turning circle radius of all submarines so that they can better maneuver and have more opportunity to reposition. On average, their turning circle will improve by around 20%.

As a result of these submarine changes, we are also adding new effects to the following signals.

Sierra Bravo +10% Hydro action; =10% DAAF reload.

  • Submarine Surveillance preparation and cooldown time: –10%
  • Hydrophone cooldown time: –10%

X-Ray Papa Unaone +10% Smoke Generator action time.

  • Dive capacity: +5%

All detailed parameters will be available in the following DevBlog, as well as in this article on our website.

Changes to the Exterior System

Starting with Update 13.1, the majority of expendable camouflages available in the game will get their permanent versions. The new permanent camouflages will function similarly to those that already exist, such as New Year, Epoch, or Made of Steel; however, you will be able to mount them on ships of any tier. These camouflages can be either purchased or earned through various activities, events, and missions.

Available permanent camouflages are stored in your Inventory. You can also see the number of copies you have under the Exterior tab. You can link permanent camouflages to ships for free, provided that you have them.

Once you link a permanent camouflage to a ship, it will remain linked to that ship and cannot be unlinked. Once you link the permanent camouflage, you will no longer be able to use the expendable version of that same camouflage on that ship. You can't sell these permanent camouflages.

Once you obtain a standard, single-colored, abstract, or thematic camouflage (expendable or permanent) on your account, you can purchase its permanent versions for all of your ships.

You can purchase permanent standard, single-colored, abstract, or thematic camouflages for Credits Credits or Doubloons Doubloons. When purchasing a permanent camouflage under the Exterior tab, it will automatically be linked to the ship.

Camouflages in "Awarded" and "Guests" categories (for example, camouflages for participating in Ranked Battles or camouflages from collaborations) can't be purchased under the Exterior tab.

You can find the prices in the table below.

13.1 camo price table

The introduction of these permanent camouflages brings several other changes:

  • Daily rewards on the barge will change — there will no longer be an option to choose the More Camouflages container as a reward.
  • Expendable camouflages will be replaced by their permanent versions in collections and campaigns, as well as for account leveling and Clan Battle mission rewards.
  • In the future, we plan to substitute expendable camouflages for their permanent versions for some activities.

Lunar New Year

You can participate in the thematic Event Pass and journey through two progression lines that offer a plethora of rewards. Each line is comprised of a total of 20 levels—complete them to earn all of the main rewards and gain access to additional rewards for completing extra levels.

The first progression line will reward you with Lunar Warrior permanent camouflages, More Signals containers, Lunar New Year containers, and Journey to the West Premium containers. Among the rewards, you will also find Game flag of Pan-Asia VI Rahmat with an economic bonus package for Tier VI ships.

This line also offers content made in collaboration with YouTuber and Twitch Streamer TheRussianBadger: the CLAWSTROPHOBIC commemorative flag, Commander TheRussianBadger with an individual voiceover, and the USS LOBSTERMINATOR permanent camouflage for Flag of the United States of America VI New Mexico.

Extra levels of this line will reward you with 2x Lunar New Year containers per level.

The second progression line, unlockable for Doubloons Doubloons, will provide the following rewards: the New Year Beast flag; Sha Wujing, Sun Wukong, and Chinese Dragon patches; Lunar Warrior and Winter Strands permanent camouflages; and Game flag of Pan-Asia VIII Hsienyang with an economic bonus package for Tier VIII ships. Moreover, you will have an opportunity to earn Silk Sunrise permanent camouflages for Game flag of Pan-Asia VII Chumphon, VIII Harbin, IX Sejong, and IX Dalian, as well as Commander Quán Róng with 10 skill points.

Extra levels of this line will reward you with 1x Lunar Warrior permanent camouflage per level.

As part of the Lunar New Year celebrations, the New Year Beast patch, Lunar Demon permanent camouflage for Game flag of Pan-Asia VIII Hsienyang, and Commander Nian with a individual voiceover have been added to the game.

The Dragon Port has been updated for the occasion.

You can find more detailed information on the Lunar New Year activities in a separate article.

Your goal is to help the allied airship to reach its destination while protecting it from the opposing team. Alternatively, you can achieve victory by destroying all enemy ships.

During the battle, ships on both sides can affect the speed of the allied or opposing airships by staying within an interactive zone near each one:

  • Airships move at a standard speed if there are no players within their interactive zones.
  • Airships accelerate if only allied ships are within the borders of their interactive zones.
  • Airships slow down if at least one opposing ship is within the borders of their interactive zones.
  • If your team simultaneously speeds up the allied airship and slows down the opposing airship, the allied airship receives additional acceleration.

Armory

Naval ensign of Italy (1861–1946) Sicilia in the Research Bureau

Welcome a new addition to the Armory: with the release of Update 13.1, Naval ensign of Italy (1861–1946) X Sicilia will become available to purchase for Research Points 60,000 Research Points.

Battleship Sicilia takes her name from the famous island in southern Italy, as well as the swift and mighty ironclad of the same name, which served in the Regia Marina at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Naval ensign of Italy (1861–1946) X Sicilia is armed with sixteen 381 mm guns in four quadruple-gun turrets, like her sister ship X C. Colombo; however, she is armed with HE shells instead of SAP and mostly relies on her AP shells to deal damage. X Sicilia can shoot comfortably over long distances and deal high damage per salvo, but her firing range is shorter compared to that of other battleships of her tier, while her accuracy is poor. Her aft turrets rotate 360 degrees.

Her secondary guns have a good firing range and fire SAP shells with high penetration. As for her AA, X Sicilia has a significantly higher range compared to other Italian ships.

The ship has good armor and quick rudder-shift times; however, her detectability is relatively high.

Her consumables are represented by Repair Party, enhanced Exhaust Smoke Generator, and a choice between Fighter and Spotting Aircraft in one slot.

Battle of the Java Sea

Starts: Fri. Feb. 16 3:00 AM Central (UTC-6)
Ends: Fri. Mar. 8 3:00 AM Central (UTC-6)

An event dedicated to the Battle of the Java Sea, one of the famous naval battles of the Pacific campaign of World War II, starts in the second week of Update 13.1.

We have prepared a special mission chain that will bring you various rewards including Java Sea Tokens; one of two new historical Commanders, Takeo Kurita or Karel Doorman; plus Battle of the Java Sea containers and a Battle of the Java Sea Premium container. Java Sea Tokens will also be available in special bundles in the Armory for Doubloons Doubloons.

You can exchange these Tokens in a dedicated Armory section to obtain Flag of the Commonwealth of Nations VI Perth and two new ships — Naval ensign of the Royal Navy (United Kingdom) VII Jupiter '42 and Flag of Japan IX Minegumo — as well as Battle of the Java Sea containers and Credits Credits. You can earn enough Tokens via the mission chain to obtain Flag of the Commonwealth of Nations VI Perth.

{{block|+|content=Battle of the Java Sea Premium containers are also going to be available for purchase in the Armory and Premium Shop. You can find more information here in the "Future Changes" section.

More details are available in this dedicated article.

    • The size of aiming ellipse increased by 20%
    • The amount of rockets that are guaranteed to hit closer to the center of the aiming ellipse reduced: 50 to 33%

As this ship demonstrated excessive effectiveness with its AP rockets, we decided to tone down the damage potential of this type of armament. In addition to increasing the size of aiming ellipse, making it harder to pinpoint a specific part of enemy ship, we have also decreased the number of rockets that are guaranteed to hit closer to the center of the aiming ellipse, thus reducing the potential of each strike to do citadel damage, as rockets are going to spread more evenly across the whole aiming zone now. At the same time, we expect the increased aiming ellipse to lead to a somewhat easier experience when dropping enemy ships, due to allowing for a slightly larger margin of error when positioning the reticle for attack.

Flag of the French Republic VI CV Béarn

  • Increased the dispersion of the Skip Bombers by 20%

Due to this ship showing excessive effectiveness when attacking destroyers, we decided to decrease its attacking potential against smaller targets by decreasing the overall accuracy of the skip bombers drop. This should bring the carrier more in-line with other carriers of the tier.
