Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Gun range: both guns 1300 m
- Good rate of fire
- Fast aimtime
- Cheap shells
- Very wide gun arc, larger than both the M37 and the GW Panther
Cons:
- Horrible accuracy
- Low damage compared to other Tier 6 arty (except for FV304)
- Slow acceleration
- Less adaptability to TD mode like the M41
Performance
The M44 is like a combined M37 and M41. The gun arc is very wide and can cover large areas of the map without having to turn the hull and reset the camo net. The gun is also hard-hitting and can hurt many high tier enemies. However, unlike the M37 and M41, the M44 is very tall, especially with the comical machine gun mount off to the right front side of the crew area. Always stay hidden and use a camo net.
The hull traverse, at stock, is terrible. That improves somewhat with the upgraded suspension and engine, but some players opt to go straight to the next tier, since those modules are considered secondary for self-propelled guns in most cases.
Early Research
- None of the available upgrades are researched and carry over from the M41.
- Research the M45 Howitzer 2nd gun first. It is lighter than stock gun so no need for tracks first.
- Tier-10 Radio next.
- Suspension and engine last. Or you can simply go straight to the M12.
- Note that the top engine is shared with the T69 Tier 8 medium autoloader. If you are going to be researching that line in the future it is sesible to research the engine here.
Alternatively, research the suspension first, as you cannot mount the camouflage net without the upgraded suspension. This will allow for increased survivability, while you are researching the other upgrades.
