Battle Tier Spread
The tier of your vehicle is the only factor used when determining which vehicles it is possible for you to be matched against. Each tier of tank has a spread of possible tiers that they are able to be matched against relative to their own tier as follows:
A small number of Premium tanks and researchable tanks have a reduced upper Battle Tier spread.
Three templates are used by the matchmaker to create games. The preferred template consists of three top tier tanks, five middle tier tanks and seven bottom tier tanks (3/5/7). A 5/10 template is also common. Finally games where all tanks are of the same tier can occur, however the matchmaker will try to make a game of one of the other template types first.
Some variance can occur in the 5/10 and 3/5/7 templates. There will never be more top tier tanks than middle or bottom tier tanks.
The current matchmaker allows a maximum of five Light Tanks and three SPGs on one team.
The classes within tiers are mirrored as best the matchmaker can achieve without sacrificing queue times.
Additionally, the matchmaker attempts to match tanks in the same subclass and tier (such as Superheavies e.g. Maus, E 100, Type 5 Heavy etc. or Autoloading Mediums e.g. Bat.-Châtillon 25 t) against one another.
Platoons can only be made up of tanks of the same tier. There may only be one SPG in each platoon, however dynamic platoons created in game can break this rule for only the game the platoon is made in. Platoons will be evenly divided between teams.
The option to remove one map from the map pool can be found by clicking on your user name in the top left of the garage screen. Players with a World of Tanks Premium account may remove one additional map. Each selection has a four hour cooldown before a different map can be selected. This selection only applies to standard battles .
The highest tier of tank in each game determines the possible maps that can be played on. These are as follows:
- Tier I - All Tier I games are fought on Himmelsdorf or Mines
- Tiers II and III - Malinovka, Ensk, Ruinberg, Karelia and Prokhorovka, in addition to the Tier I maps
- Tiers IV through VI - All maps available in Random Battles, except for Pilsen
- Tiers VII through X - All maps available in Random Battles, except for Widepark
- Province is available from tiers IV through VII .
