Player Opinion
Pros:
- Largest HP pool in the game
- 51mm central deck armor, enough to shatter low caliber HE shells.
- 38mm covers the midsection of the hull allowing her to bounce AP shells when angled.
- Twelve 18-inch (457 mm) guns, the second heaviest broadside in the game (barely edged out by Cristoforo Colombo).
- Great main battery dispersion, which can be improved further with Artillery Plotting Room mod. 2.
- Above average AP penetration, on par with Yamato.
- Above average torpedo protection.
- Tight turning circle.
- Extremely powerful AA defenses, which can be increased in power via the Defensive AA Fireconsumable.
Cons:
- Raised citadel, vulnerable while broadside.
- Prone to taking large chunks of damage even when angled due to large freeboard.
- Long main battery reload time of 36 seconds.
- Slow shell velocity.
- Slow, with a base speed of 24.5 knots.
Performance
Changes
- Main battery AP shell damage increased from 14 200 to 15 000
- Main battery reload time reduced from 36 s to 35 s
History
Vermont is based on a mix between multiple US Navy hypothetical battleship proposals dated from the late 1916 to early 1917, designed under the request of the US Senator Benjamin R. Tillman; more accurately, Vermont is a mix between the first Design No.171 and Design No.171 scheme IV-1. This series of battleship designs aimed to create a ship with the maximum armament and armour possible, while still able to pass through the Panama Canal and using contemporary harbour facilities. The first design focused on the maximum protection possible on a 70 000 tons displacement with a speed of 26.5 knots ; Scheme IV-1 focused on the heaviest armament possible, with a broadside of 13 18 inches/457mm guns on a 80 000 tons displacement with a speed of 25.2 knots. None of the ships were ever built because of the purely hypothetical nature of these designs.
In World of Warships Legends, the ship is named after the state of Vermont, following the US Navy tradition of naming battleships after US states.
Vermont shares elements from both the first Design No.171 and Design No.171 Scheme IV-1 : she has the same number of guns as the first design, but has the same armour scheme, triple funnel layout and main battery caliber as Scheme IV-1. She’s also slower than both designs, as the first design was meant to go 26.5 knots and Scheme VI-1 25.2 knots. In game, Vermont has a max speed stock of 24.5 knots. She's also represented with a fictional 1945 modernisation, in the same style as those applied to the US Standard battleship (the same kind of modernisation visible in-game with the Tennessee class battleship California) that suffered the Japanese raid of Pearl Harbor : she’s wider due to her new torpedo bulges, and fitted with modern AA weaponry, new electronics and dual-purpose secondary battery.
