Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Fairly strong armor, good against lower tier tanks.
- Top gun has very good penetration, fire rate, and aim time.
- Less sluggish than past heavies.
- Troll turret armor.
Cons:
- Awful stock grind.
- Low alpha damage on all guns.
- Armor is ineffective against tank destroyers.
Performance
The Caernarvon is very similar to the Centurion Mk. 1. Both have similar mobility, which is good for a heavy but barely acceptable for a medium (although the Centurion has an advantage in acceleration), quick-firing guns with good pen but terrible alpha, and epic turret armor. They also have terrible stock grinds, with sub-par penetration with stock cannons, hideous-looking turrets, and terrible mobility (although the Caernarvon can afford this because it's a heavy). Both also have weak hull armor. However, the Caernarvon has better armor than the Centurion, to the point where you can actually bounce some shots from it. Of course, the best way to play both tanks is to go hull down. Although the Centurion has a more solid mantlet and has 10 degrees depression, the Caernarvon has excellent turret armor and enough depression to hull-down in places vehicles like the IS-3 can only dream of. You can also better afford to make mistakes as the Caernarvon can actually bounce a couple of shots from it's hull armor and also has way more hitpoints.
