The development of this assault tank began in Great Britain in 1942. The design was finalized by February 1944, and an order was placed for 25 vehicles. However, by the fall of 1947 only five tanks had been manufactured.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

• Fantastic DPM
• 120 mm pen of HE shouldn't be scoffed at.
• Armour is decent against up to tier 9 when angled.
• Massive gun arc reduces need to turn the tank to shoot, increasing accuracy.
• High rate of fire

Cons:

• Vulnerable to flanking despite gun arc due to low mobility
• Unreliable armour profile, wont stand to tier 10 even when angled
• Cupola is a massive weakspot and can be penned from all angles except when hiding it.
• Poor alpha

Performance

The Tortoise is the culmination of the preceding AT British TDs. When max, it sports a fantastic high DPM gun that can easily out-shoot most of its tier, trading 2 or even 3 shots for every 1 fired by an opponent. Unfortunately, as a general trend in this line, the armour slowly falls behind, and at the tortoise's level this is no exception. Its armour profile is no longer that much better than the rest of the pack especially when compared to the AT2, and not only that the guns that it faces have massively improved penetration.

Therefore, it is best to play the tortoise conservatively. Hang around the edges of the battle and keep taking shots, making use of your high dpm, and help your team win by taking away enemy hitpoints fast. When targeted, disengage, wait, then re-engage, and at the end of battle don't be afraid to be an assault tank.
