Muavenet — European Tier V destroyer.

In 1938, Turkey ordered four ships of the latest I-class from Great Britain. Two of them, however, including Muavenet, were purchased by Great Britain when World War II broke out. Muavenet, which became HMS Inconstant, began her service in the Home Fleet, then was transferred to the Eastern Fleet, where she participated in amphibious operations around Madagascar. In the summer of 1942, the ship was part of convoys to Malta. Later, she fought in the Atlantic, where she escorted northbound convoys and provided cover for the Normandy landings. Finally, in 1946, the ship was returned to Turkey, where she again acquired the name Muavenet in honor of destroyer Muâvenet-i Millîye, which had sunk British battleship Goliath during the Gallipoli campaign of World War I.

Muavenet was first released with patch 12.4.

The Ship

Tier V Muavenet marks the start of the European gunboat destroyer branch. The line features main battery guns which can only fire HE rounds, and relatively weak torpedo armaments.

Muavenet is rather sluggish for a destroyer. With a top speed of 35.5 knots, she lags behind many of her rivals at Tier V, although this can be improved with her Engine Boost consumable. Her rudder shift time of 3.1 seconds is rather slow for a destroyer, although this is somewhat offset by a turning circle of 540 m, one of the best in tier.

Muavenet and the following ships gain access to a Smoke GeneratorWhile active, generates a smoke screen that blocks line-of-sight for both enemies and teammates. consumable, which allows for easier escape from dangerous situations or to freely engage targets while remaining unspotted. She carries 3 charges with a 160 second cooldown between uses. Her smokescreens are unremarkable and match those laid by Japanese and Russian destroyers, with a 20 second action time and 77 second dispersion time. Her Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. consumable can be used to increase her top speed to 38.3 knots for 90 seconds. By default, she has 4 charges, with a 90 second wait between uses.

Armament

As befits her origins, Muavenet’s main battery shares many similarities with British destroyer Acasta. Her HE DPM can rapidly strip away hit points from enemy destroyers, although her limited main battery and small gun caliber means she trails behind dedicated gunboats like Nicholas, Gremyashchy and Jaguar. With a potential 3.8 fires per minute, she is one of the better fire-starting destroyers at Tier V, and can be a constant annoyance to larger ships by harassing and putting pressure on Damage Control Parties. Her lack of main battery AP rounds means that she loses some tactical flexibility when compared with other destroyers. Without AP ammunition, she can only chip away at cruisers as she lacks the ability to score citadel hits. Her shells float at long range, making longer range gunnery difficult against more agile targets.

Muavenet’s torpedoes are some of the weakest at her tier. They retain the low damage of Visby, coupled with a shorter range of 7 km. She does have a small stealth window of 400 m where she can fire torpedoes without being seen, but this does not leave much room for disengaging. With the Concealment Expert skill, this increases to 1.1 km. With only one quad launcher, she poses little direct torpedo threat to any other ships. Her torpedoes may finish off an already damaged ship or cause a flood on a target, but they should be viewed as weapons of opportunity rather than a primary source of damage.

Anti-Aircraft

Muavenet’s anti-aircraft armament is entirely focused on short-range 20 mm weapons. Although they have excellent damage for a Tier V destroyer, they lack the range to provide any real deterrent.

Anti-Submarine

Muavenet drops a pattern of six depth charges at one second intervals with two sets of charges stored. These have a reload time of 40 seconds. Each charge can cause a potential 2,400 damage to enemy submarines. This is fairly low, and when combined with her small drop area she may struggle to sink a full health submarine. As she also lacks a Hydroacoustic Search consumable, she is a poor ASW ship and may need to rely on friendly ships to locate a submerged target.

Battle Performance

Muavenet plays somewhat like Acasta. Due to her relatively weak torpedoes, she needs to rely on her rapid-firing guns to cause damage. Although her lack of AP rounds might not initially feel like a big drawback, it can limit her tactical options, particularly against lightly armored cruisers that are vulnerable to destroyer-caliber AP rounds. Although Muavenet has superior DPM to many other destroyers, she must be cautious when engaging in a gunfight as she can find her rather small health pool rapidly depleted. Muavenet can launch her torpedoes from stealth, but her small torpedo complement and their low damage means that their impact will be limited. With only one launcher, she is unable to cover large areas, and many large ships will be able to receive multiple hits with minimal damage. Overall, Muavenet’s torpedoes should not be thought of as primary weapons.

Her Smoke Screen consumable can allow Muavenet to safely engage larger targets, but as she lacks a Hydroacoustic Search this can leave the player at risk of being torpedoed in her smoke.

Pros:

  • High HE DPM
  • Good fire-starting potential
  • Small turning circle
  • Smoke Screen consumable

Cons:

  • Small health pool
  • No AP rounds
  • Weak torpedoes with short range and low damage
  • Slow
  • No Hydroacoustic Search

Research

Researchable upgrades for Muavenet:

  1. Hull: Upgrade to Hull (B) for improved survivability, maneuverability and AA. Research of this module unlocks progression to Stord.
  2. Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to SUO Mk 5 Mod. 2 for an extra 10% range on the main battery.

Optimal Configuration
