[[Ship:Midway (< 23.01.2019)|Midway (< 23.01.2019)]] — American Tier X aircraft сarrier.
The largest U.S. Navy warship laid down during World War II. The huge size of this aircraft carrier allowed her to carry the largest air group, compared to her contemporary counterparts. Excellent torpedo protection, well-armored flight deck and powerful AA defenses made Midway-class ships virtually invulnerable to attacks from enemy aircraft.
The lead ship of the class, USS Midway, is now preserved as a military museum ship in San Diego, California.

Player Opinion
Performance
Pros:
- High potential damage over time (via fires and floods) coupled with solid alpha strike potential.
- Massive plane reserves means she can afford to press costly attacks.
- High survivability.
- Best aircraft in the game.
- Strong anti-aircraft suite.
- Stock Build Midway is a strong mix of offensive and defensive squadrons.
- Dive bombers are equipped with 1000 lb. bombs and inflict tremendous damage if they hit.
Cons:
- With a base detection radius of over 18.0 km, Midway is among the most easily detectable ship in the game; this makes her a prime target for enemy surface ships when she is spotted.
- Armor is just thick enough to let incoming armor piercing shells from enemy battleships land as regular penetrations (or citadel hits) rather than over-penetrate.
- Relatively low alpha damage when compared to Japanese counterpart Hakuryu.
- Small number of squadron limits her strength in reconnaissance.
- Long squadron re-arm times, especially when a squadron of planes is destroyed entirely.
- Relies on damage over time to deal a lot of damage.
- With only one squadron of torpedo bombers, she may struggle when attempting early strikes against enemy destroyers (unlike Hakuryu which can potentially overwhelm a destroyer with multiple torpedo squadrons from several angles).
- Her aircraft are the best in the game, but the performancegap between Midway’s planes and those of Hakuryu is quite small... and Hakuryu puts a lot more planes into the air.
- Dive bombers have somewhat questionable accuracy due to randomness of bomb drops (even when dropped manually).
- A Strike Build Midway may struggle against an enemy Hakuryu that is also Strike Build; Hakuryu has 2 squadrons of fighters while Midway only has 1.

Optimal Configuration
Upgrades
As a carrier at Tier X with all six possible upgrade slots, it's best to mount Air Groups Modification 1 in Upgrade Slot 1, Flight Control Modification 1 (for faster aircraft rearming time) or Air Groups Modification 2 (for better fighter capability) in Upgrade Slot 3, Air Groups Modification 3 (for better bomber survivability) in Upgrade Slot 3, Damage Control System Modification 1 in Upgrade Slot 4, Damage Control System Modification 2 (for players who choose to use the Emergency Takeoff commander skill and might not have Damage Control Party ready) or Propulsion Modification 2 (for captains who choose to stay on the move and avoid enemies) in Upgrade Slot 5, and Concealment System Modification 1 in Upgrade Slot 6.
Commander Skills
As Midway is a Tier X carrier, the player has access to the special carrier Defensive Fire consumable, which lasts for two minutes and increases the ship's AA DPS by a factor of 1.25. Coupled with Basic Firing Training and Manual Fire Control for AA Armament, captains can significantly increase the ship's AA DPS to shoot down enemy planes effectively. Or, as Midway has access to the Concealment System Modification, captains can opt to choose to utilize the Concealment Expert skill as an indirect form of further protection from enemy ships (with skill, camouflage, and upgrade, her surface detection range is 13.04km).
The Dogfighting Expert skill is not generally recommended; however, it may be useful for captains pursuing an Air Superiority Build who have not yet researched upgraded fighters. Additionally, due to dive bombers having over 100% chance of causing fires, Demolition Expert is not a recommended skill.

Consumables
As a Tier X carrier, Midway has access to the following consumables:
Premium Defensive AA Fire is recommended to counter any enemy carrier's attempts to "snipe" the player (that is, by having all bombers bypass allied ships undetected and attempting to sink the player in one hit). Premium Damage Control Party II is not recommended as it is only needed in dire moments, or when the player is the last one alive.
Camouflage
Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce detectibility range.
Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip Midway with Type 20 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, increases her credit earnings, and increases the amount of experience she earns.
Signals
As a carrier, Midway can only mount at most four signals at a time and has no risk of detonating. Players should mount Equal Speed Charlie London (for faster XP grinding / increased XP gain per battle), Zulu Hotel (when coupled with Equal Speed Charlie London greatly helps increase the speed of commander retraining), November Echo Setteseven (for better bomber self-defense against fighters and increased AA DPS), and Juliet Whiskey Unaone (to have a better chance at causing flooding and dealing damage via flooding). Players can also choose to equip the Dragon Flag for faster commander (re)training.

History
Service
The Midway-class aircraft carrier was one of the longest-living carrier designs in history. First commissioned in late 1945, the lead ship of the class, USS Midway, would serve her country for nearly 50 years. During her early years, Midway served the Navy as a test bench vehicle. She tested cold-weather operations (FROSTBITE), fired a captured V-2 rocket (SANDY), and test-launched long-range nuclear bombers. She participated in tests of the angled deck design in the early 1950s. The British concept proved successful, and Midway was refitted accordingly in 1957 along with other modifications to allow her to carry heavier and more modern aircraft. In 1963, two test pilots successfully landed their aircraft via automatic "hands off" approaches.
Midway saw extensive action during the Vietnam War, launching 11,900 sorties over a nine month period. From 1966 to 1970, Midway was reborn as an even larger and more powerful aircraft carrier, with a larger flight deck and reworked infrastructure. She returned to Vietnam, assisting with combat operations, rescue operations, and removal of American assets.
During the late 1970s and 1980s, Midway made her presence known in the Middle East and the Indian Ocean. In 1990, with decommissioning in sight, Midway participated in the Persian Gulf War (DESERT SHIELD/STORM). After the conflict, she participated in humanitarian missions in response to the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. Finally decommissioned in 1992, USS Midway is currently a museum ship that can be visited in San Diego, California.Historical Gallery
