Loyang — Pan-Asian premium Tier VIII destroyer.

A destroyer specifically built for the U.S. Navy, boasting powerful AA guns and a high speed. She was handed over to the Navy of the Republic of China in 1954. Her armament was comprised of dual-purpose main guns and quintuple torpedo tubes.

Player Opinion

Performance

By any form, Lo Yang is practically a Benson in Taiwanese hands but she comes with two nasty surprises: you can forego speed boost for Hydroacoustic Search or Defensive AA Fire, as well as an alternate set of faster swimming — yet shorter ranged — torpedoes. A dynamic premium, Lo Yang can provide the edge needed with any selection of play style, from attempting to surprise the enemy with long-range torpedoes, to making them shake in their boots in your near-suicidal torpedo run, or even forcing other destroyers into a melee. She will serve captains well provided that they are well versed in how her original US counterpart handles.

Pros:

Fast turret traverse.
Has access to the Hydroacoustic Search consumable, which turns the destroyer into a bloodhound (Addendum: the hydro's range for both torpedo and ship has been increased to 3.75km and 5.43km, respectively).
Has access to the Defensive AA Fire consumable as a option.
Two torpedo loadout options.
Good rudder shift.
Impressive handling characteristics; she responds to her rudder quickly and has a tight turning radius.
Captains that are familiar with the American Tier VIII destroyer Benson, can perform well in her.

Cons:

Torpedoes may have a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" feeling; the default torpedo has a reach of 9.2km at 55 knots which is the Benson 's top torpedo; the improved torpedo moves at 68 knots but has a shorter range of 6km, requiring you to charge into near-suicide ranges for a torpedo run. (Addendum: the short range torps were buffed to 6.7km)
Hydroacoustic Search is in the same slot as Engine Boost so choose wisely.
Like its premium colleague Błyskawica, the ship is not good for captain cross-class training other than for her fellow Pan-Asia destroyer colleague, Anshan.
Lo Yang is basically a (C) Hull Benson bearing the Taiwanese ensign, so you have only four (4) guns instead of the five (5) on the Benson (B) Hull.

Research

She has a second optional upgrade for torpedoes that travel faster in exchange for shorter range.

Concealment System Modification 1 is highly recommended as a universal Destroyer Upgrade but Steering Gears Modification 3 is a viable alternative.
Main Battery Modification 1 is also highly recommended due to her weak turret armor and their habit of being knocked out or disabled.

The Lo Yang has access to a variety of Consumables:

Like all ships, she has access to the Damage Control Party
As a Destroyer she gets access to Smoke Screen and Engine Boost, she benefits from smoke more as she gets US DD smoke, which lasts longer than other nations smoke.
Like US DD's from tier 5 onwards the Lo Yang gets the option to use Defensive AA Fire instead of Engine Boost (Note US Destroyers from tier 6 to 8 require the C Hull to use Defensive Fire)
Like German Destroyers, the Lo Yang gets access to Hydroacoustic Search, making her an excellent destroyer hunter as she can detect other Destroyers in smoke using Hydroacoustic.
Being Tier VIII it is recommended to use premium consumables due to their shorter cool down duration, especially Damage Control Party as the 40 second cool down will serve you better than the 60 second cool down.

Camouflage

As a premium ship, Lo Yang comes included with Type 10 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, and increases the amount of experience she earns.

Signals

Juliet Charlie is the signal to use on Destroyers to prevent the "fun & engaging" Detonation, this flag is a must have/requirement if playing Ranked Battles or Team Battles.
Sierra Mike is a viable signal for Lo Yang if captains wish to use Hydroacoustic Search but don't like that they must sacrifice Engine Boost, this flag brings Lo Yang’s top speed up to 39.9 knots from 38 knots.
