Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Unlike the 109 F, the G has a rather hard-hitting 30mm gun available.
- Maintains excellent engine power and service ceiling characteristics.
Cons:
- Shares the exact same problem as its direct predecessor: Poor number of guns.
- No distinct change in maneuverability. Stock is again a downgrade from fully upgraded F.
- 30mm gun is very inaccurate without any modifiers.
- does not get better machine guns than those available on the 109 F.
Performance
A direct upgrade of the Bf 109 F, the Bf 109 G boasts two things: a powerful 30mm autocannon and a powerful engine. The Bf 109 G is incredibly fast and has great altitude performance, in addition to being able to climb and dive rapidly. Like the Bf 109 F, however, the Bf 109 G has a limited arsenal of guns leading to a distinct playstyle. What the Bf 109 G lacks in volume of fire, it more than makes up for with its hard-hitting 30mm autocannon. Using this method works well for the Bf 109 G:
- Fly at high altitude and choose your target: you'll be more successful against heavy fighters, multiroles, and lightly armed bombers than other fighters, GAs, or heavy bombers with nasty AA-suites.
- Dive in and take your target by surprise, then fire at close range- closer than the maximum range of your 30mm autocannon to maximize damage output.
- Stay glued to your target and pump it with 30mm shells until you destroy it or until enemy backup arrives, then disengange.
- Fly up and repeat the process.
