Performance
The Yak-3RD is essentially a Yak-3 that traded in two of its 20mm autocannons for a rocket engine, giving well-rounded flying characteristics at the cost of firepower. The Yak-3RD has noticeably better altitude performance than the regular Yak-3, with a good climb rate and dive speed. The rocket engine helps it get around quickly and can dive at full-speed in a matter of moments. The Yak-3RD retains the exceptional maneuverability of the Yak-3 and combines it with speed and altitude performance from the rocket engine, making it a well-rounded fighter in terms of performance. Unfortunately, this performance comes at the cost of having limited firepower: one hub-mounted 23mm autocannon. On paper it has the damage and rate of fire of the late-tier 23mm Soviet autocannons, but because the Yak-3RD uses only one gun you need to keep a steady and accurate flow of damage at your target almost like a machine gun. Play this plane like the Bf-109F or the I-210; keep your gun on target and avoid head-on attacks or trying to bring down full-HP GAs or low-flying bombers. Use your speed to run down slower targets and your maneuverability to out-turn them. When played correctly, the Yak-3RD can be a nasty surprise for fighters and multiroles despite their advantages in firepower.
