Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Great mobility - easily reaches and keeps its top speed
- Excellent gun handling, snap shots are likely to hit
- Very high ammo capacity
- Good AP penetration which makes you dangerous even in Tier IX (without premium ammo)
- Very good credit income, AP shells are cheap (Only 255 cr), making 50k+ in some battles
Cons:
- Turret armor is not as thick as the Pershing's which means you can't rely on it
- 853 m/s AP shell velocity makes leading targets difficult
- Mediocre long range accuracy on top makes long range fights inefficient
- Less APCR penetration than the Pershing's 90 mm T15E2M2 gun (243 vs 268 mm), but still enough in Tier X
Performance
The M46 Patton KR basically is a stock Tier IX Patton and as such has more in common with it than with the Pershing which causes some minor differences in playstyle. With your great gun handling you should look for quick snap shots and focus more on a "peek-a-boo" fighting technique instead of playing the hull down defender. Your turret armor, while being not bad, most of the time simply isn't enough to bounce off incoming shells (ignoring the occasional bounce of course).
Comparing it directly to the M26 Pershing (which also makes more sense since both vehicles are American Tier VIII medium tanks) the M46 Patton KR is more mobile and features less turret armor. Nonetheless the gun has -10° of depression allowing you to abuse terrain as you like, so American medium tank players will feel right at home. Your good P/W-ratio of 18.41 hp/ton also allows for quick acceleration, combined with a very decent forward top speed (48.3 km/h) and reverse speed (20 km/h!) the overall mobility synergizes extremely well with a peek-a-boo snap shot / pot shot playstyle. Despite the abysmal terrain resistance values the acceleration is surprisingly good.
