Colorado — American Tier VII battleship.
The ship design is based on the Tennessee class but equipped with 406 mm/45-caliber twin-gun mounts. Upon entering service, USS Colorado was assigned to the battle fleet stationed on the West Coast of the United States. Colorado was stationed at Pearl Harbor from 1941; however, at the time when the surprise attack of December 7 took place, the battleship was undergoing an overhaul at Bremerton. The ship provided support for the assault landing on Tarawa, pre-invasion shelling and fire support for the invasions of Kwajalein and Eniwetok, and assisted the landings in the Philippines and Okinawa.

Player Opinion
Performance
The very pinnacle of the American dreadnought and one of the Big Seven, Colorado is the last ship of this type you will be in within the US battleship line and you might say that she is one very tasking ship. A massive departure of the other two super dreadnoughts New York, New Mexico, and Arizona, Colorado, despite being often jeered due to her agonizing research run and adverse ergonomics to those that are not used to the more punishing handling of this dreadnought compared to her standard type predecessors, behaves more like a close-in brawler, slowly closing the gap with other battleships with her thick armor as she can NOT unload shells very far unless you install a range upgrade mod. As you do this, be very aware of your surroundings such as torpedoes or bombers of any type because even with her sound torpedo bulge and decently tough armor, her health is lower than her contemporary, Nagato, or even lower tier battleships like Kongo. If you do get close, however, you will find it easier to deal with cruisers or other battleships as your expected range where you are most effective in smashing other ships is 14 km below instead of relying on your maximum range for it and the armor is here to take a lot of punishment for you to move in and dictate the gun line to your terms. Colorado is the last in the line of Standard-type dreadnoughts, and her successor, North Carolina, will have a very different play style. Due to the atrocious acceleration of Colorado, it is STRONGLY recommended to be constantly aware of your position in relation to land masses as well as where enemies and allies are located, stopping in this ship is an almost guaranteed death sentence particularly without the top engine, as it becomes very hard to get moving again, especially if trying to go reverse.
As of the current iteration, the Colorado's previous WW1 hull has been removed, greatly aiding in the grind on the ship as you cannot suffer the problematic AA suite as well as the questionable hull.Pros:
- All-or-nothing armor: she has the same solid 343mm (13.5 inch) thick all-or-nothing armor layout as New Mexico, being easy to angle and providing a large immune zone
- Good gun characteristics: she has good damage and penetration on guns including overmatching all 25mm battleship hull armor, as well as a reasonably tight shell grouping, also reloads 4 seconds faster than New Mexico.
- Powerful AA guns: modernized hull's AA suite will shred mid-tier squadrons, making Colorado an unappealing casual target or flyover
- stock hull has good steering response times
- Equipping the Artillery Plotting Room modification upgrade can reduce the range gap with her Japanese and German tier counterparts
- Fighter seaplane is available to replace spotting planes to enhance AA defense
- Main battery's tight spread means it can severely damage, if not outright destroy, any ship at close range effectively
- Repair Party heals 0.65% of maximum hit points per second, compared to the standard 0.5% hit points per second, partially compensating for the lower health pool.
Cons:
- Poor gun range on the ship: she will still be outranged by her counterparts Nagato and Gneisenau even when mounting the artillery plotting room module although against her German counterpart she's barely outranged, and her gun range is within her surface detection range without camo if you chose not to mount said equipment (though it is still better than the New Mexico's range).
- Very low mobility: Feels even more sluggish compared to the New Mexico, also has atrocious acceleration without top engine, thus it is also very hard to stop and reverse while sailing her.
- Low health pool: her HP is worse than Nagato, Gneisenau, her fellow standard New Mexico, and even the Tier V Kongo
- Low number of guns: having four less guns than her predecessor, being accurate in making your shots is much more important
- Poor close-quarters defense: her secondary armament pales in comparison to Nagato and Gneisenau
- Extremely vulnerable to fires.
Research
Despite how slow this ship is stock, you should be used to that by the time you get Colorado. The first Hull upgrade is HIGHLY recommended to be researched first as it not only gives you the standard HP increase, good AA rating, and rudder shift time, but it also gives you WWII era shells. These shells not only do more damage, but the AP ammo seems to have better penetration values as well. After getting the first hull upgrade, the Propulsion upgrade is recommended since even with the upgrade every ship at her tier is faster than her. After that, you have the option of either the fire control or the C hull. The fire control gives her a firing range the same as her spotting distance, but bear in mind this ship is not very accurate at long ranges. The C hull will not only increase your AA to a very respectable amount for tier 7, but also increases the minimum armor on her citadel, which should further increase the effectiveness of armor angling.
Optimal Configuration
Upgrades
Despite her shortcomings, Colorado is a surprisingly modular ship that can be focused on either her main guns, her secondaries, or even her AA.
Main Gun Build: While Colorado doesn't deal as much damage as Nagato, nor has the capabilities of Gneisenau and Scharnhorst, her main guns still have good performance, having a greater rate of fire than Nagato`s 410mm guns and dealing more damage than Gneisenau`s 380mm guns and Scharnhorst`s 283mm guns. To fully utilise these guns, taking Main Armaments Modification 1 to better protect her main armament is the best choice, and for slot 2, the unique American upgrade Artillery Plotting Room Modification 1 will give Colorado a much-needed range improvement that allows her to compete with her contemporaries better, and a small buff to her secondaries.
Secondary Build: Colorado has the best secondary armament performance tier-for-tier of the American battleships, with her top hull actually retaining a high number of secondaries that the earlier American battleships lose with their top hull upgrades. To focus on her secondaries, Auxiliary Armaments Modification 1 will make her secondaries twice as tough (and increase the toughness of her many AA guns), and for slot 2 Secondary Battery Modification 2 is the clear choice for any secondary build, both increasing her secondary's range and accuracy.
AA Build: Colorado`s strongest power over the other tier seven battleships is her extensive AA armament - she can get up to an AA rating of 87 with full AA specs and be exceptionally powerful against enemy planes. The only major difference between this and the secondary build is swapping Secondary Battery Modification 2 for AA Guns Modification 2 to give Colorado`s AA guns an exceptional range buff. This build makes Colorado pose a dangerous threat to enemy planes.
For the other two slots that goes with every build above, as with nearly all battleships Damage Control System Modification 1 for slot 3, as Colorado`s steering and engines will almost never be taken out, and Damage Control System Modification 2 for slot 4 to reduce the duration of fires and floods - fires especially, as Colorado is painted with AA guns and will catch fire very easily.

Consumables
Players can equip the following consumables on Colorado: Damage Control Party, Repair Party, and a choice between Spotting Aircraft and Catapult Fighter. It is strongly recommended to take the Premium versions of Damage Control Party and Repair Party to maximize surviveability. Given Colorado’s limited range, prioritising the Spotting Aircraft over the Catapult Fighter will often give more benefit to Colorado.
Camouflage
Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 2 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce the accuracy of incoming shells.
Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip Colorado with Type 17 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, increases her credit earnings, and increases the amount of experience she earns.
Signals
As with all battleships, Colorado comes with 8 signal flag slots. The three most important flags are India Delta, Juliet Yankee Bissotwo and India Yankee; all of which will improve your surviveability. If the captain goes with the Secondary Build, the addition of Mike Yankee Soxisix will further improve the performance of Colorado’s secondaries. Alternatively, if the captain goes with the AA build, November Echo Setteseven will further improve Colorado’s AA array.Gallery
