The P26/40 is an Italian tier 4 medium tank.
Development of this vehicle started at the end of 1940, but due to difficulties in finding a suitable engine, the first prototype was manufactured only at the beginning of 1942. Mass production was launched in 1943 in Turin. After Italy's capitulation in the autumn of 1943, the tank entered service under the designation Panzerkampfwagen P40 737(i) and was used by the German reserve divisions as permanent fire positions. A total of 100 vehicles were produced.
The P26/40 leads to the P.43, and the Semovente M41.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Good top gun with high alpha damage, good RoF and acceptable handling
- Good protection, comparable thickness to the D.W. 2 plus sloping at front
- High penetrating HE shell, wrecks soft-skinned vehicles easily
- Good gun depression & elevation
Cons:
- Low HP pool for its size (320 with stock turret, and 350 with top turret).
- Low engine and turret module health
- Subpar mobility, bad terrain resistance
- Slow shell velocty on the 75mm guns, head-scratching at mid to long range
- Low view range and radio range
Early Research
- If you researched the RF 2 CA radio from the M15/42, it will carry over. Mount it immediately.
- Research the 75/32 gun first to replace the inadequate stock gun. The slower rate of fire will make it easier to fully aim before taking each shot.
- If you wish to mount a full set of equipment, you will need the mod. 43 tracks to bear the load. Otherwise, the order from here on is more of a soft recommendation.
- Research the top tracks to increase terrain performance and decrease at least some of the tank's overall sluggishness.
- Research the engines. Note that the 2nd engine, the SPA 342, is an xp sink, as it offers only 10% better performance than the stock while weighing 80% more. If you go for engines, it may be better to wait to invest the full 2,270 xp to reach the top engine all at once.
- The mod. 43 turret and 75/34 gun will offer marginally better performance overall. You will need these anyways to research the next tank in the line, the P. 43.

Historical Info
The designation means: P for pesante (Italian: "heavy"), the weight of 26 tonnes, and the year of adoption: 1940. Though physically a medium tank in size, weight, armor, and armament, it was classified as a heavy tank by the Italian military in reflection of its intended support of smaller tanks on the battlefield.
