Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Relatively good burst damage of 1600 divided by 4 shells
- Decent armoring, and somewhat reliable turret armor highly adept at bouncing shells when hull down
- Large amount of front armor is positioned at auto-ricochet angles, making hulldown more effective
Cons:
- Not counting the auto-bounce portion, front armor is relatively weak
- Default AP has 960 m/s velocity and ONLY 248 pen, makes full APCR all but necessary
- Long interclip period of 4 seconds and long aim time of 2.87 seconds stock
- Turret on level ground can be penetrated by most tier 10 premium shells
Performance
The Carro 45T is similar to the Progetto 65 in which they share the same autoreloader mechanism. One might be tempted to say that both tanks handle about the same. However, this couldn't be farther from reality. The Carro 45T boasts a higher alpha of 400, and a higher total clip of 1600 compared to the Progetto's 360 alpha and 1440 total clip damage. The Carro also comes with a good angled turret. While it is nowhere as good as other hulldown mediums such as the Centurion and Patton, or as good as brawler meds like the 430U and 121, it does have enough angle and thickness to make it much more viable in hulldown than the Progetto 65. The armoring is decent, with a significant portion of the upper plate being positioned at a autobounce angle. Sidescraping is possible in some instances, which can help with city brawls when necessitated.
However, this is where the rainbows stop and reality sets in. Unlike the Progetto, which has decent aim stats, the Carro comes out of the box with a 2.87 aim time akin to heavy tanks or large caliber TDs. This effectively limits you to mid/close range combat, of which the usage of a Vertical Stabilizer is highly recommended. Moreover, the front portion excluding the autobounce area is easily penetrated by even tier 8 vehicles. However, as if that wasn't enough to take in, you also get AP with 248 mm of pen. This mandates majority APCR setups to even have a chance in random matches, which can prove especially draining over time. Moreover, the slow interclip period of 4 seconds may allow some targets to get away with only 1-2 hits. The stock 9.58 second reload (firing only the last shell) is extremely slow and does not reward driving into "hot zones".
In conclusion, the Carro is a very capable second line support vehicle. It has enough armor to work ridgelines if necessary and enough side armor to bounce if called upon it. As long as the operator keeps in mind the peculiar gun characteristics and tank armor, the Carro will excel in nearly every environment, helping the team finish off tanks or hold a flank. In the hands of skilled operator who has mastered situational flow, the Carro will prove to be a highly challenging adversary, flowing between tasks that help the team towards victory.
