The Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H Ankou is a German tier 5 premium medium tank.
The Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H Ankou is manned by the Anglerfish team, a crew consisting of five Ōarai Girls Academy students. Under the command of Miho Nishizumi, this vehicle was the driving force behind Ōarai's critical victories against Saunders, Anzio, Pravda, and Kuromorimine. It was the first vehicle discovered by Ōarai's Sensha-Dō team, which had recently been reestablished in order to take part in the national high school tournament. Having sat abandoned and neglected in the team's old garage for years, at first glance, the tank seemed to be in abysmal condition. However, a closer look revealed that the armor and tracks were still in decent shape, giving the team something to work with. Later on, the tank would undergo various upgrades, including spaced armor and a bigger gun.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
+ Versatile: good agility and fair to decent hull-down capability with gun depression of 10 degrees.
+ Survivable: very good camouflage and high HP pool.
+ Spaced armor helps protect against HE/HEAT shells.
+ Is a unique premium tank; comes with a unique look, decals and a set of unique crew with fully customized voicelines. Also benefit from premium matchmaking and increased earnings.
Cons:
- Relies heavily on vision control: binoculars are a must to get the first shot.
- The turret front is not noticeable but thin; Tier 3's can penetrate that 50mm plate. Small gun mantlet that is almost useless for any kinds of protection to add up to the 50mm turret face.
- Inferior mobility to previous tier 4's with worse top speed and much more weight.
- Not a brawler: the 75mm has less penetrating power and less DPM than the American 76mm M1A1, British 6-pdr Mark V, and Russian ZiS-4 guns.
- Forward-mounted transmission located in the lower glacis and low module HP leads to frequent engine damage from the front.
- Lacks the alternative sets of modules the H has; noticeably the 10.5 cm howitzer, which limits the playstyles.
Performance
At the first glance, this tank is not much different from the standard version found in the tech tree, except for a number of (obvious) differences—the presence of a unique camouflage, unique decals, and unique crew set. But the biggest difference lies not in those trivial matters, it's the fact that this tank—yes, this very tank—is a premium tank.
So what's the matter with the tank being a premium? Isn't it better that, being a premium, will earn more valuable credits, experience, free experience, and crew experience that can be used to train somebody? No. We are too familiar with this one; that premium tanks lack the alternative sets of modules tech tree versions own. What exactly does that mean? It means that your Ankou lacks the 105 mm howitzer. It's not exactly a bad thing to have the 75 mm L/48 as default, but the choice of gun limits your playstyle, at least partially.
Now that the 10.5 cm is lacking, the Ankou can only function as a second-line sniper. Use your superior gun handling of the 7.5 cm to do the job and pick off people from a distance. Due to the Ankou technically being just another H, it owns all weaknesses the H has, and all strategies applicable on the H can also be applied on the Ankou, minus the brawling part (again, by the absence of the 10.5 cm). The Ankou inherits the good gun depression, so players can also use this to their advantage and take hulldown positions, despite their small mantlet that barely covers the 50 mm piece of armor that makes up the turret face. Use your mobility to reach advantageous positions where you can snipe reliably, since this tank won't do well in close-range combats, as your armor is weak everywhere and penetrations will prove devastating to your health pool.
