Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

The Progetto M35 mod. 46 is an Italian tier 8 premium medium tank.

Conceptualization of a draft design developed at the request of General Francesco Rossi who believed that only light vehicles weighing up to 35 tons would be effective in a new war. Such an innovative design was not approved; development was discontinued when Italy joined the Standard Tank project.

Most are somewhat familiar with how autoloaders work in WoT - basically like a revolver that has to be emptied and then refilled completely (though one does not have to fire all shells). The Progetto, along with its T8-10 techtree peers, instead features an autoreloader, which refills the clip as long as you do not fire, with 'refill' times becoming progessively longer for each shell fired.

Needless to say, this makes the Progretto way less situational than autoloaders, while also introducing opportunistic gameplay into the mix. This requires little effort to get used to - as long as you are able to wait for a loaded gun it's a perfectly viable single-shooter.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Flexible 3-shot autoreloader
  • Good DPM
  • Excellent accuracy, very good aim time
  • Very good gun depression (-9 degrees)
  • Very good mobility

Cons:

  • Extremely weak armor
  • Abysmal camouflage
  • Standard (AP) shell velocity is subpar
  • Poor on the move gun handling

Performance

More or less an improved P.44 Pantera, which functions similar to a much improved Panther II. The overall reliable gun enables it to function well at all ranges, complemented further by the autoreloader, which is a fine blend of burst and single shooting capabilities, at the cost of AP shell velocity.

Due to its overall good mobility, apart from Light Tanks it will usually be among the first to critical positions or flank enemies, where the -9 gun depression and excellent gun let it steadily output damage. While it is fairly easy to spot since it has somewhat low camouflage, it in turn has 390 View Range, making it an all rounder vehicle.

However, it does struggle in some areas. 720 is a below average burst for autoloaders, somewhat limiting clipping potential, and the average AP velocity/alpha damage hinder long range combat and trading potential. Additionally, as the limiter of autoreloaders, the more shells are fired in the clip, the lower the DPM is (if there are 3 shells in the clip the DPM is highest, if there is 1 it is the lowest).

Overall the Progetto 46 is excellent, and its strengths definitely outweigh its flaws. Try take as little hits as possible and mix the single shots with bursts.

Historical Info

The Progetto 46 is based off a description of a general tank in the 1946 book "La Ricostruzione dell’ Esercito” written by General Francesco Rossi, which outlined how and with what equipment the Italian army should be reorganised with following their defeat in World War 2. The English translation of his proposed tanks reads as follows:

“I mention the characteristics a national production tank should have solely to complete the vision of the mechanic vehicles, if it is considered viable and appropriate, as I think, proceed to studies and the preparation of a prototype. Fast tank, well armored, not too big and heavy [like an elephant], provided it stays within the limits allowed by our railway and artwork [bridges, tunnels, etc.], but able to stand up to the most advanced tank of foreign countries: weight between 30 to 35 tons, cannon of a calibre around 75 mm, 500/600 HP engine specifically of injection type due to lower risk of fire compared to a gasoline engine. From the tank, a self-propelled gun might be derived using the same hull for a 90 mm cannon or a howitzer of a larger caliber”

The tank was to mount a gun of calibre around 75mm, and the 90mm which appears on the Progetto 46 was instead meant for an SPG based on the same chassis. No images were presented of the tank, and thus its design in World of Tanks is a Wargaming fabrication.
