The AMX Chasseur de chars is a French tier 8 premium medium tank.
In 1946, the AMX company presented this design for a new vehicle. The powerful engine and light weight would have made the vehicle highly mobile, and the 90-mm gun was equipped with a mechanical ammunition system for a high rate of fire. However, the large dimensions of the vehicle, its thin armor, high cost, and the complexity of the design made it unappealing, and the project never advanced to a prototype.
The CDC is a rather interesting tank. While it was originally intended as a tank destroyer, in WoT it's classed as a medium tank. The hard stats will lead you to believe that this is essentially a fat light tank - 35hp/t being one of the best in the game.
However, due to hidden stats, namely ground resistance, the tank is much slower than you'd think. Adding to the problems is bad gun handling - all in all it results in an inadequate package of a quick-ish medium tank with an average gun, bad gun handling and absolutely no armor. In case that's not enough, the camo values are between a Pershing and a Panther: between 'mediocre' to 'pretty bad'. While the CDC was considered one of the best premium tanks at its introduction, it's now mostly a relic of the past. Penetration, while good, is now average, nor is it good enough to compensate for lackluster gun handling.
Good players might be able to exploit the arguably above average mobility of the tank, but it remains a tank with extremely low survivability. Big size, low camo, slow aiming, most things are against you even when employing what would appear to be ideal tactics for a fast tank destroyer. That's not even counting that this playstyle is impossible on most of the in-game maps. Adding to the problem is that most players will load HE when you come around. This means that trading shots or dueling tanks is extremely risky at best. Artillery will feast on you, and with a direct hit you won't even remember that there was an arty rebalance trying to counter the 1000-damage penetrating hits.

Performance
While the AMX CDC has the best power to weight ratio of any medium tank, 35.58 Hp/t, beating the Tier X B-C 25 t by 5.8 Hp/t. However, it does not mean it has the best top speed or mobility in terms of soft stats. As it stands, the turning radius of the tank is 40 deg/s and the stats on soft, medium, and hard terrain are above 1.40, meaning this tank can really suffer in mobility by feeling quite sluggish.
However, don't let that discourage you from playing this tank as a flanker. With the powerful engine of 1,200 hp, it can easily climb to the top speed of 57 km/h and you can use that speed to escape unfavorable conditions as well use that power to flank distracted tanks. Don't let that speed blind you, as your armor is the biggest Achilles' heel this tank has to offer. With the thickest part being 30 mm thick, do not take this tank to the front line.
Finally, the gun, which is average at best, with a stock dpm of 1,973, 212 mm of average pen, and 240 damage per shot which is decent at best. It does boast a great gun depression of -10 degrees, so you can use that depression to peak hills and fire at enemy tanks, but don't stay in one spot for too long. As arty can really wreck this tank, destroying modules and killing crew members, or out right destroying this tank in one go, any HE shell aimed at you can ruin this tank.
Fear the Tier IX and X American Light tanks if they decide to run the 152 mm, as well the KV-2! Do not try your luck with these tanks, if anything, run away and head for your team if they have the armor to withstand these shots. As it stands, the AMX CDC used to be an above average tank, but now suffers greatly.
- 1.14 saw buffs to the AMX CDC:
Gun handling from 0.20/0.20/0.16 (0.19/0.19/0.15 effective due to commander bonus) -> 0.16/0.16/0.10 (0.15/0.15/0.10 effective) Aim time from 2.2 -> 1.8 Reverse speed increased from 20 -> 23 While the buffs are arguably not enough, it does make it FAR better at snapshotting.
