Commander Bio: 

Arleigh Burke (1901-1996) was an admiral of the U.S. Navy (1955), and one of the key figures in U.S. naval history of the 20th century. After he was commissioned as an officer, Burke spent a long time serving on battleship Arizona. He devoted several years to thoroughly studying naval weaponry. In 1939, he took command of one of the newest destroyers and honed her crew's skills in gunnery and night combat tactics to perfection. After the United States joined World War II, Arleigh Burke, being a weapons expert, was sent to one of the ordnance plants, It was only in early 1943 that he managed to be transferred to the Pacific. The division and then the squadron of destroyers under Burke's command took part in dozens of battles, always pushing themselves to the limit and destroying lots of enemy ships and aircraft. A perfect example of such naval warfare was the Battle of Cape St. George, during which Burke's ships maneuvered excellently and used their radars masterfully to sink three Japanese destroyers without losing a single crew member. As a Chief of Staff of Admiral Mitscher, the Fast Carrier Task Force Commander, Arleigh Burke took part in all major battles in the Pacific Ocean during the final stages of the war. In 1955, being a distinguished officer and an expert in modern weapon systems, admiral Burke was appointed as Chief of Naval Operations. He occupied this position for an unprecedented six years and almost completely modernized the Navy.
