Commander Bio: 

Angelo lachino (1889-1976) was an Italian Fleet Admiral (1943) who served 50 years in the Italian Navy during two world wars and a series of other conflicts involving the Navy.

lachino entered service at the age of 15 at the Italian Naval Academy in Livorno. In 1911-1912, he participated in the Italo-Turkish war. During World War I, he served on battleship Giulio Cesare as a lieutenant before receiving a new assignment in 1917 as commander of the 66PN torpedo boat. Under his command, the 66PN was involved in the Raid on Pula, during which Austro-Hungarian battleship Viribus Unitis was sunk. During the interwar, lachino actively served in China and participated in the Italian Invasion of Albania, rapidly receiving new ranks. At age 47, he was promoted to the rank of Admiral, becoming the youngest Rear Admiral in the Italian Navy. In December 1940, during World War II, he was tasked to command the entire Italian battle fleet. Under his leadership, the Italian Navy fought in the Battles of Cape Spartivento, Cape Matapan, and the First and Second Battles of Sirte. On April 5, 1943, lachino was replaced by Admiral Carlo Bergamini as the commander of the Italian battle fleet. He left active service in 1954 and was discharged in 1962.
