+Tier VIII Royal Navy aircraft carrier ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' continues the gameplay introduced with Tier VI aircraft carrier ''[[Ship:Furious|Furious]]''. Her aircraft feature high HP and slow speed, and signature British carpet bombers, but she has a small hangar with poor plane regeneration time.
 +
 +<h4>Supermarine Seafire Attack Planes</h4>
 +
+''{{#var:ship_name}}''’s attack aircraft are a secondary source of damage with decent fire chance. Each squad consists of 6 aircraft that attack in flights of 2, with each plane launching 10 rockets for a total of 20 rockets per drop. The decent amount of rockets combined with a short machine gun delay makes them a good choice to use against enemy destroyers, as a well-aimed salvo can remove a third (or more) of a destroyer’s HP with one drop. The rockets should not be relied upon as a primary source of damage against larger targets, as their penetration is just 28 mm and they will shatter on thicker armor. Ideally, the attack aircraft should be used to hunt destroyers and to light fires on targets that have used their Damage Control Party for permanent fires.
 +
 +<h4>Fairey Spearfish Dive Bombers</h4>
 +
+''{{#var:ship_name}}''’s dive bomber squadrons consist of carpet bombers. They release a large number of bombs from a high altitude that can potentially deal high damage, but require more lead due to their longer fall time. Each squad consists of 6 aircraft that attack in flights of 2, dropping 8 bombs each for a total of 16 per drop. The bombs themselves have low alpha damage and 32 mm penetration, and will shatter on the heavily armored decks of battleships and some large cruisers. However, they have a high fire chance and can set multiple fires with a single well-aimed drop. The bombers are best utilized against enemy battleships and cruisers, particularly battleships that have used their Damage Control Party or ones with 32 mm deck plating.
 +
+Due to the horizontal oval-shaped aiming reticle, these bombers are best against battleships and large cruisers that are directly perpendicular to the drop. Carpet bombers are largely ineffective against small or actively maneuvering targets such as destroyers.
 +
 +<h4>Fairey Spearfish Torpedo Bombers</h4>
 +
+''{{#var:ship_name}}''’s torpedo bombers are a consistent form of damage against heavily armored targets. Each squad consists of 8 aircraft that attack in flights of 2, with each plane dropping a single torpedo for a total of 2 per drop. These torpedo bombers have a converging spread, relatively short aiming period, and high flooding chance (51%). When used in conjunction with the carpet bombers, these torpedoes can be used to force enemy ships to repair a flood before following up with carpet bombers to light permanent fires. As with many other torpedo bombers, they have an in-flight repair consumable to help against anti-aircraft damage.
 +
+A unique feature of the British torpedo bomber squadrons is their ability to turn while fully aimed without any dispersion penalty. However, the torpedoes are slow and require good lead in order to maximize damage output.
 +
 +<h4>Ship:</h4>
 +
+''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is a well-armored aircraft carrier that travels at 32 knots and features a 76 mm central flight deck, 38 mm deck plating, and 25 mm fore and aft armor. While no armor-piercing shell can penetrate the central flight deck, her fore and aft are prone to battleship overmatch. She has a high base concealment of 14.5 km and is covered in standard 19 mm aircraft carrier side plating. Her citadel is large and exposed in the middle of the ship.
 +
+Her anti-aircraft suite is quite strong, rivaling ''Lexington''’s. While she has a low flak count of 4, her constant AA dps is high and has a range of 5.8 km.
 +
 +
 +<h4>Tips:</h4>
+* All of ''{{#var:ship_name}}''’s aircraft are slow, but have a tight turning radius and can turn around after strikes to immediately follow up with a second strike. It is best to wait out Damage Control Parties and look for permanent damage over time through fires and floods, as each strike has low alpha damage potential.
+* When using torpedo bombers, it is possible to make 180 degree turns while fully aimed on targets. In order to do so, aim the torpedoes while in the attack phase and then sharply turn using the mouse or A/D keys.
+* When dropping targets with carpet bombers, players should lead at least half a ship in front of target to ensure maximum bombs hit the target

 ===History=== ===History===
? +HMS ''Implacable'' was an ''Implacable''-class aircraft carrier built for the Royal Navy during World War II. Upon completion in 1944, she was initially assigned to the Home Fleet and attacked targets in Norway for the rest of the year. She was subsequently assigned to the British Pacific Fleet (BPF) where she attacked the Japanese naval base at Truk and targets in the Japanese Home Islands in 1945. The ship was used to repatriate liberated Allied prisoners of war (PoWs) and soldiers after the Japanese surrender, for the rest of the year. ''Implacable'' returned home in 1946 and became the Home Fleet's deck-landing training carrier, a role that lasted until 1950. She briefly served as the flagship of the Home Fleet in 1950. During this time she participated in many exercises and made a number of port visits in Western Europe. She was placed in reserve in 1950 and converted into a training ship in 1952, and served as the flagship of the Home Fleet Training Squadron. The ship was considered for a major modernization in 1951–52, but this was rejected as too expensive and time-consuming. ''Implacable'' was decommissioned in 1954 and sold for scrap the following year.
 ====Design==== ====Design====
+The Implacable class had its origin as an improved version of the Illustrious-class aircraft carriers for the 1938 Naval Programme. They were designed to be 2 knots (3.7 km/h; 2.3 mph) faster, and to carry an additional dozen aircraft at the expense of reduced armor protection to remain within the 23,000 long tons (23,000 t) available from the tonnage allowed by the Washington Naval Treaty. Implacable was 766 feet 6 inches (233.6 m) long overall and 730 feet (222.5 m) at the waterline. Her beam was 95 feet 9 inches (29.2 m) at the waterline and she had a draught of 29 feet 4 inches (8.9 m) at deep load. The Implacable-class ships were significantly overweight and displaced 32,110 long tons (32,630 t) at deep load. The ships had metacentric heights of 4.06 feet (1.2 m) at light load and 6.91 feet (2.1 m) at deep load as completed. Implacable's complement was approximately 2,300 officers and enlisted men in 1945.

?====Service====+The ships had four Parsons geared steam turbines, each driving one shaft, using steam supplied by eight Admiralty 3-drum boilers. The turbines were designed to produce a total of 148,000 shp (110,000 kW), enough to give them a maximum speed of 32.5 knots (60.2 km/h; 37.4 mph). On sea trials, Implacable reached speeds of 31.89 knots (59.06 km/h; 36.70 mph) with 151,200 shp (112,700 kW). She carried a maximum of 4,690 long tons (4,770 t) of fuel oil which gave her a range of 6,720 nautical miles (12,450 km; 7,730 mi) at 20 knots (37 km/h; 23 mph).

+The 760-foot (231.6 m) armored flight deck had a maximum width of 102 feet (31.1 m). A single hydraulic aircraft catapult was fitted on the forward part of the flight deck. The Implacable-class carriers were equipped with two lifts on the centreline, the forward of which measured 45 by 33 feet (13.7 by 10.1 m) and served only the upper hangar, and the aft lift (45 by 22 feet (13.7 by 6.7 m)) which served both hangars. The upper hangar was 458 feet (139.6 m) long and the lower hangar was 208 feet (63.4 m) long; both had a maximum width of 62 feet (18.9 m). Both hangars had a height of only 14 feet which precluded storage of Lend-Lease Vought F4U Corsair fighters as well as many post-war aircraft and helicopters. Designed to stow 48 aircraft in their hangars, the use of a permanent deck park allowed the Implacable class to accommodate up to 81 aircraft. The additional crewmen, maintenance personnel and facilities needed to support these aircraft were housed in the lower hangar. The ships were provided with 94,650 imperial gallons (430,300 l; 113,670 US gal) of aviation gasoline.

Performance

Warning. The data presented in the AA Defense sidebar section may be incorrect.

Tier VIII Royal Navy aircraft carrier Implacable continues the gameplay introduced with Tier VI aircraft carrier Furious. Her aircraft feature high HP and slow speed, and signature British carpet bombers, but she has a small hangar with poor plane regeneration time.

Supermarine Seafire Attack Planes

Implacable’s attack aircraft are a secondary source of damage with decent fire chance.

Fairey Spearfish Dive Bombers

Implacable’s dive bomber squadrons consist of carpet bombers.

Due to the horizontal oval-shaped aiming reticle, these bombers are best against battleships and large cruisers that are directly perpendicular to the drop. Carpet bombers are largely ineffective against small or actively maneuvering targets such as destroyers.

Fairey Spearfish Torpedo Bombers

Implacable’s torpedo bombers are a consistent form of damage against heavily armored targets.

A unique feature of the British torpedo bomber squadrons is their ability to turn while fully aimed without any dispersion penalty. However, the torpedoes are slow and require good lead in order to maximize damage output.

Ship:

Implacable is a well-armored aircraft carrier that travels at 32 knots and features a 76 mm central flight deck, 38 mm deck plating, and 25 mm fore and aft armor. While no armor-piercing shell can penetrate the central flight deck, her fore and aft are prone to battleship overmatch. She has a high base concealment of 14.5 km and is covered in standard 19 mm aircraft carrier side plating. Her citadel is large and exposed in the middle of the ship.

Her anti-aircraft suite is quite strong, rivaling Lexington’s. While she has a low flak count of 4, her constant AA dps is high and has a range of 5.8 km.

Tips:

  • All of Implacable’s aircraft are slow, but have a tight turning radius and can turn around after strikes to immediately follow up with a second strike. It is best to wait out Damage Control Parties and look for permanent damage over time through fires and floods, as each strike has low alpha damage potential.
  • When using torpedo bombers, it is possible to make 180 degree turns while fully aimed on targets. In order to do so, aim the torpedoes while in the attack phase and then sharply turn using the mouse or A/D keys.
  • When dropping targets with carpet bombers, players should lead at least half a ship in front of target to ensure maximum bombs hit the target

Pros:

  • Armored flight deck
  • Short machine gun delay time
  • High fire chance on carpet bombers
  • Torpedo bombers suffer minimal dispersion penalty when turning
  • Torpedo bombers have a short aiming time.
  • Strong AA suite

Cons:

  • Large citadel
  • Low armor penetration on carpet bombers and attack aircraft
  • Slow planes
  • Poor hull concealment
  • Slow plane regeneration
