Thunderer — British special premium Tier X battleship.
After Vanguard was laid down, the further development of British battleships was aimed at increasing their dimensions. Among the options was a project with 457 mm guns that had been developed after World War I for battleships and battlecruisers of projects N and G.
Thunderer was released September 16th, 2019 in the Armory for coal. Wargaming has announced the ship will no longer be available to obtain with the release of Update 0.10.1 in early 2021.

Player Opinion
Performance
Refer to the in-game Port screens for more useful data.
Thunderer exists as the sister-ship of the Tier X U.K. battleship, Conqueror. As such, she shares many of Conqueror's in-game performance characteristics and weaknesses. Despite the similarities, Thunderer possesses certain distinguishable traits that differentiate her. Immediately, players will notice that she has access to the Defensive AA Fire consumable. Players will also find that Thunderer is more agile, with slightly increased turret traverse speed, and decreased reload time. She deals damage to aircraft with a short-range anti-aircraft armament, which Conqueror is lacking. To balance these traits, her Repair Party consumable is much less effective, though she has an additional charge and decreased cooldown time of this consumable in comparison to her sister-ship. Other differences include her sigma, dispersion formula, and the fuse timer settings on her armor-piercing (AP) shells.
Thunderer is equipped with dual-mounted 457mm main guns, mounted in four turrets. A full salvo unleashes eight shells which are extremely accurate, meaning that Thunderer has a very high potential to inflict devastating damage to an enemy foolish enough to show their broadside. Her large-caliber AP rounds are capable of penetrating thick armor to reach the citadels of armored ships. Players are advised to switch to high-explosive for lesser armored targets in order to avoid overpenetration. Thunderer's HE shells sport an incredible fire chance, which makes them a great option to deal with bow-in battleships or cruisers that she cannot overmatch. Her stock decreased reload time, paired with the proper upgrade module, means that Thunderer has a reload time more in line with a battlecruiser, rather than a battleship. Her excellent concealability affords her the ability to choose her engagements and wait for the opportune moment to fire. However, her armor scheme is far from being good, forcing captains to play in the back and capitalizing on enemy mistakes to inflicts serious damage. Thunderer is truly a formidable opponent, whether she be fighting naval units or aircraft. She can be customized and equipped to fit several different playstyles, and she will surely be seen excelling in her captain's desired role.Pros:
- Large main battery gun caliber (457mm) allows AP shells to overmatch 30mm of armor.
- HE shells hit hard and have the greatest fire chance (66% with signals and commander skills) in the game.
- Excellent main battery reload speed.
- Great main battery accuracy with battlecruiser dispersion; rivals Yamato's.
- Excellent rudder shift for a battleship.
- Great concealment, as low as 12.3km with camo, comparable to techtree counterpart Conqueror.
- Decent mid-range AA suite, along with short-range AA suite comparable to techtree counterpart Conqueror.
- Has access to the Defensive AA Fire consumable.
- Great firing angles on all turrets.
- Enhanced Repair Party consumable heals more than standard and has a fast cooldown, similar to Vanguard's.
Cons:
- Only eight shells per salvo compared to Conqueror's twelve.
- While better than standard, Repair Party is not as effective as Conqueror's.
- Weak armor scheme, especially against HE spam.
- Weak torpedo protection.
- Large citadel sits above the waterline and is exposed to enemy fire if not properly angled.
- Fairly poor shell velocity.
- Lacks aviation facilities.
- Shorter main battery firing range (21.5km) compared to Conqueror's 24.3km
- Very short ASW airstrike range of 6km, comparable to a cruiser's ASW airstrike range
- Playing her can occasionally result in your getting reported by several members of the enemy team due to sheer frustration.
