The Caliban is a British tier 8 premium heavy tank.
The Caliban is a project of the Royal Military College developed in 1962. The vehicle certainly was not pretty, but it was supposed to feature excellent movement characteristics, reliable frontal armor, and a powerful gun. The project turned out to be too complicated and expensive, and its numerous innovations did not guarantee any advantages over the vehicles in production and development. Work was discontinued at the drafting stage, and no prototypes were built.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Great burst damage - 1700 average with HESH, and 1200 average with AP
- HESH shells have decent penetration
- Decent turret face and upper glacis armor
- Great gun depression (-10 degrees)
- Very good acceleration
Cons:
- Punishing reload, over 60 seconds for both shells
- Abysmal aim time, accuracy, shell velocity, and on the move dispersion
- HESH shells deal low to no damage if they fail to penetrate
- Incredibly weak side and rear armor
- Very poor reverse speed
Performance
Caliban is a close range fighter, unlike its techtree counterpart Caernarvon. It is completely unsuited for ranged fights due to its very bad accuracy and EXTREMELY POOR shell velocity (particularly with HESH shells). Thanks to its good acceleration it can race to key positions reasonably quickly and once there trade shots with enemy tanks, using its good frontal armor to tank some shots while returning fire. An excellent -10 degrees of gun depression ensures that Caliban will stay relevant on uneven terrain too.
Additionally, again thanks to its high engine power, a Caliban can follow medium tanks down a flank and be a nasty surprise to enemy mediums, against which its HESH penetration will be more than enough (whereas against heavy tanks said penetration is far less reliable and premium AP is a better option).
A warning - never empty the magazine unless you're absolutely sure the target will be destroyed. Caliban uses a two-shot autoreloader (not unlike Italian medium tanks) with an extremely punishing reload of over 60 seconds. Enemy tanks catching you while reloading both shells will have an easy kill available.

* The Caliban design called for a 160mm gun, not 152.4mm.
- The design did not include an AP round.
- The historical nuclear round is missing.
