The Excelsior is a British tier 5 premium heavy tank.
An experimental assault tank on the Cromwell's chassis. Developed as a replacement for infantry and cruiser tanks. Development was started in 1942, and two prototypes designated the Excelsior were built by the English Electric Company in 1943–44. After the trials, the project was discontinued in favor of the Churchill tank that was already developed.
The Excelsior can be thought as the British equivalent to the American T14. This tank takes the middle ground between medium and heavy classes, and preforms below averagebfor both roles. The armor is barely adequate, and against tier 6 and 7 guns, uselss. The mobility, while decent, doesn't make this tank.

Performance
The Excelsior does not look amazing on paper, but in play it is a fascinating tank. The low alpha of the gun is more than compensated for by a high RoF. It fares well against equal tier mediums, but can struggle against heavies and higher tiers. Opt instead to lob HE shells or sling premium rounds. Otherwise, practice aiming at weak spots and use your RoF to make up for the pen. The premium rounds are affordable in credits, and the Excelsior is a good money maker for Tier V with minimal repair costs. When using premium rounds, the penetration goes up to 144mm - there's not many tanks that the Excelsior will see that it cannot frontally pen. AT 2's & AT 8's are impenetrable frontally, even with HE or gold, so they should be avoided if possible.
Very agile, you can outmaneuver other heavies. Don't try circle of death however - those weak sides will not take it. It's more of an aggressive flanker.
Reverse speed is pretty good, which allows for some interesting tactics. When caught between a rock and a hard place, it is perfectly capable of reversing towards an enemy that has flanked your rear, shooting at that enemy in order to take it out and regain cover, while the enemy in front of you wastes ammo on your thick frontal armor and thick rear turret armor. That big plate across the rear of your engine is 108mm thick, not bad, and the rear of your turret is slightly less at 92mm.
This tank performs similarly to the T14 in terms of role, and their stats do not differ a lot. Note the Excelsior has thick but unsloped armor, potentially a target for HE shells, while the T14's hull is sloped. The Excelsior has a slightly higher top speed of 38 km, but the T14 has better hp/weight ratio.
You can platoon three of them together, and create a very effective wolfpack in either t5 or t6 matches.
