The T26E5 is an American tier 8 premium heavy tank.
Successful combat use of the assault M4A3E2 tank with enhanced armor spurred the decision to create a similar modification of the M26. Chrysler started production of the improved vehicles in July 1945. Trials revealed that it was necessary to reduce its off-road speed to avoid damage to the suspension. A total of 27 vehicles were manufactured to take part in trials and experiments.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Good penetration on standard ammunition
- Good gun depression
- Huge ammo capacity
- High rate of fire means good DPM
- Well angled frontal armor can block lower and same tier guns
Cons:
- Low Alpha damage compared to other same tier heavy tanks
- Premium ammunition doesn't provide noticeable penetration boost
- Non-stellar accuracy compared to M46 KR and T34
- Feels sluggish despite good power-to-weight ratio
Performance
Imagine a M26 with a more power engine and thicker frontal armor: that's what you get with this tank. Frontal turret armor on this vehicle; while not as thick on the turret as the T32 & T34, is still thick enough to bounce many lower and same tier guns with its only problems being tier 9 & 10 guns. Hull armor thickness is even better than on the prior tanks, combined with the good angle means top tier this tank is a beast.
When middle or bottom tier; you'll have to adapt to being a support tank behind your tier 9 & 10 brethren; however the tank due to its 704 horsepower engine can accelerate at a good rate for a heavy tank; meaning you can easily outpace slower heavies and keep up with the IS-3 and the WZ-111. Terrain resistance isn't very good, combined with average traverse speed means you can't outmaneuver other medium tanks, but can do so to much slower heavy tanks and come out on top. Accuracy is improved over the SuperPershing and the T32, allowing your superb, standard APCR ammo to hit the enemy weakspots. This combined with acceptable turret armor and good gun depression allow the T26E5 to hull down well like other American heavies.
