Stord '43 — European special premium Tier VII destroyer.
Eight S-class destroyers, ordered by the British Admiralty under the War Emergency Program, entered service in 1943 and 1944. Two ships of the series were transferred to the Royal Norwegian Navy and named Stord and Svenner. Destroyer Stord etched her name in history during the Battle of the North Cape. Norwegian torpedoes played an important role in sinking German battleship Scharnhorst. In June 1944, Stord supported the landing of troops in Normandy, after which she remained in active service for another 15 years.
Stord '43 was first released on 6 December 2023, as the reward for the 20th stage of the Holidays in Santa City event's paid progression line.

The Ship
Tier VII Stord ‘43 shares many similarities with her Tier VI iteration, but she also has many subtle changes. She is a destroyer with a high rate of fire and a maneuverable hull, but she also has a small health pool, weak torpedoes, and she is not particularly stealthy.
A top speed of 36.8 knots lags behind the fastest destroyers at Tier VII. Although she is not the slowest destroyer at her tier, she does not hold a serious speed advantage over her rivals. She retains the maneuverability of Stord, her rudder shift time of 3 seconds and a tight turning circle of 590 meters combine to make a nimble target. Stord ‘43 has a base surface concealment of 7.5 km, that can be reduced to 6.8 km with the Concealment Expert skill. Players can easily find themselves out spotted by almost all of their same tier rivals.
Unfortunately, her health pool is the lowest of all Tier VII destroyers as she shares the same hull with Tier VI Stord. With only 11,900 hit points, she only has the same health as Muavenet’s upgraded hull at Tier V. Survivability Expert is necessary to bring her health to a useful level.
Stord ‘43 trades the Engine Boost consumable of Stord for a Repair Party . This has 2 uses as standard which can each heal up to 20% of her health. A Repair Party is an unusual consumable on a destroyer, and Stord ‘43 carries a version with improved performance which can help to make up for her lack of health. She also mounts a Smoke Generator , with a 20 second action time, 61 second dispersion time and two charges as standard, with a 160 second cooldown between uses. Players will find that the Superintendent skill provides a much needed boost to her survivability.
Armament
Stord ‘43 shares the same main gun battery as many mid-tier British destroyers, although she gains an improved reload of 3.5 seconds. Unfortunately, the advantages of her rapid reload are diminished by the low number and small caliber of her guns. Her guns also struggle to deal damage to even destroyers so the Stord '43 should not be played as a gunboat. Despite having one of the fastest reloads at her tier, her DPM totals are some of the lowest among her counterparts.
Her gunnery emphasizes short range duels, as her shells have a rather low initial velocity and quickly lose speed. This causes them to “float” as the range increases, which can make long range firing difficult against nimble targets.
Although they are small caliber, her HE rounds have enough penetration to defeat the bow and stern plating of most cruisers. When engaging battleships, players will need to aim for the superstructure to cause direct damage.
Unlike her tech tree sister, Stord ‘43 can use AP rounds. Against lightly armored targets these can provide some extra punch at short ranges, below 5km the shells can penetrate 100mm of armor but this drops off rapidly as the range increases.
Stord ‘43 has the same torpedo armament as Tier VI Stord, with two quad torpedo launchers. The torpedoes have a longer range of 10 km, meaning players can remain at a relatively safe range to harass larger ships. Unfortunately, she pays for this longer range with a slower reload, at 90 seconds her reload sits in the middle of the pack. Additionally, her individual torpedoes have some of the lowest damage per torpedo and the lowest flood chances at her tier. Before captain skills and torpedo protection is taken into account, she is half as likely to cause a flood as other destroyers. This means that even compared to her Tier VI sister, her torpedo DPM is woeful. Amongst Tier VII destroyers, she ranks amongst the worst torpedo DPM ships, even Haida and Huron, with only a single quad launcher each can manage higher DPM scores. This is partially made up for by their high speed which can make them difficult to avoid at short ranges, although a high detection range of 1.6 seconds means that targets will have almost 8 seconds to take avoiding action.
Anti-Aircraft
Like many destroyers, Stord ‘43 has fairly weak AA defenses. She may shoot down one or two aircraft when facing same tier carriers, but her anti-air defenses cannot keep her safe from a determined attack. Most of her AA damage comes from her short range batteries, requiring enemy aircraft to be within 2km before they can be engaged.
Anti-Submarine
Stord ‘43 drops a pattern of eight depth charges from her stern, similar to that of British destroyers. However, her depth charges deal less than half the damage of American or British ones, just 2400 damage for a direct hit. Multiple depth charges will be needed to sink a submarine, even with direct hits. To add to this challenge, STORD ‘43 does not have a Hydroacoustic Search, so tracking submarines can be difficult.
Battle Performance
Stord ‘43 presents a potentially challenging gameplay style. Although she has a better than average reload, her small gun caliber and low number of guns mean she cannot match dedicated gunboat destroyers. Her torpedoes have long range, but hit like soggy noodles. This, combined with a long reload for their damage makes her an unreliable torpedo platform. Her concealment does not easily allow her to ambush other destroyers and her small health pool means she can quickly melt away under sustained fire.
Initially, players should focus on combating any isolated enemy destroyers, using her Smoke Screen or island cover to disengage from unfavorable fights. Stord ‘43 can successfully combat torpedo boat destroyers, but gun focused destroyers present a potentially serious threat. If friendly support is not available, players are often best served by breaking contact and waiting for support before attempting to engage.
If players need to fight larger ships, then Stord 43’s best option is usually to use her rapid reload to try and set fires on her targets from the relative safety of a smoke screen. Her torpedoes can provide a deterrent despite their low damage, but they will not pose a serious threat to any healthy ships.
Effective use of her Repair Party and Smoke Screen are needed to remain effective for an extended period and compensate for her DPM problems, breaking away from enemy fire to heal and return again with her health restored. Building on her fire starting potential can help alleviate some of her low DPM woes.Pros:
