Special

FR25 — Italian special premium Tier VII destroyer.

The Guepard class was a group of large destroyers built for the French Navy between 1927 and 1931. Similar to the previous Jaguar class, they had a larger hull with slightly improved speed and 139 mm guns of a new design.

Several of the Guepard class destroyers were scuttled during the sinking of the French Fleet at Toulon in November of 1942. FR 25 would have been one of these that the Italians attempted to raise and refurbish for use in their own navy but this could not be completed before the end of the war.

The Ship

FR25 is a Tier VII premium Italian ship that combines elements of the French destroyers and the Italian destroyers. Sharing the French style high speed and large hit pool with access to more and longer lasting consumables, she is able to offer a more hybrid playstyle in terms of repositioning and aggression than her tech tree counterpart Luca Tarigo.

Armament

Captains familiar with Guepard will notice some similarities between her weaponry and those of FR25. FR25 uses the 139 mm/40 Mle 1923 guns with the same layout and same shell ballistics as Guepard but with a longer reload and faster traverse speed. Her main guns have access to both standard HE shells and SAP shells. SAP shells have higher alpha damage and can penetrate thicker plating; however, it can bounce at steep angles. Her HE shell alpha damage is 2000 and has a 9 percent base fire chance which is average among Tier VII destroyers. Her SAP shell alpha damage is 2700 which is high among Tier VII destroyers but less than her tech tree counterpart Luca Tarigo. Her HE shells have low damage per minute and her SAP shells have average damage per minute compared to Tier VII destroyers, this is due her 5.8 second reload and only having 5 rifles. She is unable to maintain superiority through sustained gun fights and captains must take more care if choosing to take her into a knife fight. Her gun range is 11.86km which allows her to engage targets at a safer distance.

Her torpedoes are different from the torpedoes found on the Italian tech tree destroyers. FR25 has two triple torpedo launchers with an average base reload of 80 seconds. Her torpedoes are some of the fastest at Tier VII at 68 knots and some of the hardest hitting. This is balanced out by having one of the lowest torpedo ranges at Tier VII which prevents her from being able to launch from stealth unless the enemy vessel is sailing toward her. The short range of the torpedoes heavily limits their use outside of knife fights. However, they can spell a quick return to port to any enemy vessel hit by them.

Similar to the tech tree Italian destroyers, FR25 has access to an Exhaust Smoke GeneratorGenerates a smoke screen that allows the ship to remain undetected at full speed.. The Exhaust Smoke Generator differs from the normal Smoke Generator in that it blooms fast enough to allow the captain to sail at full speed while still remaining concealed at the cost of having the lowest dispersion time in the game. Where she differs from the Italian tech tree destroyers is her Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage.. FR25 has access to a French style Engine Boost consumable which gives her a slightly smaller speed boost than Emergency Engine PowerWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. but lasts for two full minutes allowing it to be used for repositioning as well as an escape measure. Her base speed of 36 knots is average for the tier, although with her Engine Boost consumable engaged she is able to reach 43 knots, making her one of the fastest at the tier. Her hull is large and one of the less maneuverable destroyers at Tier VII with higher than average hit points and her concealment is average at 7.2 km base.

Anti-Aircraft

FR25 has access to both mid range and short range AA but lacks long range AA. The short ranged AA and mid ranged AA have values of 6.8 and 46.6 damage per second respectively.

Battle Performance

FR25 plays in a role that combines elements of the French and Italian destroyer lines. Her Exhaust Smoke Generator and Engine Boost consumables allow her to play in an ambush predator role to push into a threat and deal a large amount of damage at close range using her main battery and torpedoes before disengaging. In between uses of her smoke generator she can serve as a long range gun fighter utilizing her speed and long range main battery to get chip damage on large targets.

Captains should opt to play her in a mix of an opportunistic ambush predator and swift mid-to-long range gun boat. When engaging in close quarters combat it is possible to use her Engine Boost and Exhaust smoke to charge an enemy undetected and untargeted before unleashing a powerful torpedo barrage at close range if the captain is willing to make a high risk maneuver.

Pros:

  • SAP shells with some of the highest damage at Tier VII
  • Fast torpedoes for Tier VII
  • Powerful torpedoes capable of doing 14,833 damage per hit
  • Access to Exhaust Smoke GeneratorGenerates a smoke screen that allows the ship to remain undetected at full speed. that allows concealment at full speed
  • French style Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. provides a large boost for a longer time

Cons:

  • Poor damage per minute for HE shells compared to other destroyers
  • Short torpedo range that prevents launching from stealth
  • Short uptimes and few charges of Exhaust Smoke Generator
  • One of the less maneuverable destroyers at the tier with a 690m turn circle
  • Completely lacks long range AAA and what she has is weak

Research

As a premium ship, FR25 has no module upgrades to research.

Optimal Configuration

FR25 should be tailored toward improving her firepower and maneuverability. Her torpedoes have more limited uses and should hold less priority than her guns.

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for FR25 are in line with a standard torpedo focused destroyer build:

Commander Skills

FR25 uses a playstyle that is a cross between French destroyers and Italian destroyers. Below is a recommended build for FR25.

Consumables

FR25 equips the following consumables:

Camouflage

As a premium ship, FR25 comes with Default permanent camouflage and a set of permanent combat bonuses.
