Luca Tarigo — Italian Tier VII destroyer.
The Navigatori Class were a group of destroyers built for the Italian Navy in 1928 and 1929 as a response to the large destroyers being constructed for the French Navy. These destroyers, initially classed as scouts, were significantly larger than the preceding class and almost twice the displacement.
Luca Tarigo was laid down August 30th, 1927 and launched December 9th, 1928. She served in WW2 for the Italian Navy until 1941 when she was sunk by British Destroyers at the Battle of the Tarigo Convoy.
Luca Tarigo was first available during Update 0.11.2. on 17th Mar 2022.Modules

The Ship
Luca Tarigo is a Tier VII ship in the Italian destroyer line and continues the close quarters characteristics of Italian destroyers. With stronger armament and more hit points than her predecessor, she shares a very similar playstyle to the previous ships in the line.
Armament
Luca Tarigo uses 120 mm/50 Ansaldo Model 1926 guns which retain the same shell ballistics and characteristics as the Aviere. Luca Tarigo continues the unique features of the Italian destroyer main battery by having access to HE shells and SAP shells. SAP shells which have higher alpha damage and can penetrate thicker plating but can ricochet at steep angles . Her HE shell damage of 1700 is average for Tier VII with an average fire chance per shell at 7%. Her SAP shell damage is notable at 2850 and is amongst the highest alpha’s for any destroyer shell at Tier VII. With a 6.5 second base reload the damage per minute for the HE shells is below average, however her SAP damage per minute is amongst the best. Her very high SAP shell damage can surprise enemy captains by dealing large amounts of damage upon first contact and continuing to deal large amounts of damage in sustained fights. This is mitigated somewhat by the layout of her main battery which has poor firing angles, especially when attempting to face forward, and by having the lowest firing range of any destroyer at Tier VII at only 7.5 km when using the SDT 7 mod.2 module.
The torpedoes on Luca Tarigo are average in characteristics for the tier. Her two triple torpedo launchers have a quick base reload of 70 seconds however the volume of torpedoes she is able to launch at once is limited. Her torpedoes are fairly slow for Tier VII at 56 knots but have a 10km range allowing her to launch from fairly safe distances when needed. The damage per hit for the individual torpedoes is 10000 which is one of the lowest at the tier. The torpedoes are unremarkable compared to her contemporaries but can catch enemy captains off guard when the long range and quick reload is used to catch them off guard.
Being an Italian DD Luca Tarigo has access to the Exhaust Smoke Generator and Emergency Engine Power consumables. The Exhaust Smoke Generator differs from the normal Smoke Generator in that it blooms fast enough to allow the captain to sail at full speed while still remaining concealed at the cost of having the lowest dispersion time in the game. Emergency Engine Power acts similarly to the normal Engine Boost consumable found on many other destroyers however gives a much larger increase to speed for a much shorter period of time. These consumables coupled with her high damage guns can allow her to be fairly effective at ambushing enemy vessels before sailing away either using high speed, concealment, or both. Her detectability is on the higher side with a 7.5 km base detection range. Her speed and maneuverability are also both equally middle of the pack for the tier.
Anti-Aircraft
Luca Tarigo has access to both mid range and short range AA but lacks long range AA. The short ranged AA and mid ranged AA have average values at 32.8 and 23.2 damage per second respectively. The reach of her mid range AA is comparable to her contemporaries at 3.5 km however her short range AA is not, it is short ranged at 1.2 km and only useful when aircraft right above her. It would be best for Luca Tarigo to keep her AA turned off to reduce her detectability and only be used to defend herself when aircraft are close by.
Battle Performance
Luca Tarigo serves well as an ambush predator that can use her consumables to get out of trouble more easily than other destroyers. The limited range of her main armament encourages captains to take her into knife fight range to engage enemy vessels while using her high damage SAP shells and using either her Exhaust Smoke Generator or Emergency Engine Power to leave the area during disadvantageous situations.
Captains should opt to use her as a mix of a hyper aggressive knife fighter when engaging enemy destroyers and a long range torpedo boat launching frequently at higher HP opponents. Her limited firing arcs require that care be taken when positioning her for an engagement. Her smoke generator has a small number of charges that mostly limit it to being used as a defensive tool for escape. Her engine boost can be used as an offensive tool to chase down and engage weak opponents or force engagements that are beneficial to her.Pros:
- High damage SAP shells with some of the highest damage at Tier VII.
- 10km torpedo range is on the higher side
- Good base torpedo reload at 70 seconds
- Access to Exhaust Smoke Generator that allow concealment at full speed
- Emergency Engine Power provides a large boost to speed when needed
Cons:
- Poor damage per minute for HE shells
- Poor firing angles make the guns somewhat uncomfortable to use at times
- Short uptimes on consumables leave frequent periods waiting for recharge
- Torpedoes have low damage and flood chance
- Completely lacks long range AA.
Research
Availability of researchable upgrades for Luca Tarigo is as follows:
- Hull: Upgrade to Hull (B) for improved survivability, AAA, and maneuverability. Research of this module unlocks progression to Vittorio Cuniberti.
- Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to SDT 7 mod.2 for an extra 10% range on the main battery.
Optimal Configuration
Luca Tarigo should be tailored toward improving her firepower and maneuverability. Her torpedoes have more limited uses and should hold less priority than her guns.
Upgrades
The recommended upgrades are:
- Slot 1: Main Armaments Modification 1
- Slot 2: Engine Room Protection or Engine Boost Modification 1 (special)
- Slot 3: Aiming Systems Modification 1
- Slot 4: Propulsion Modification 1
Commander Skills
Luca Tarigo uses a playstyle that is almost the same as the remainder of the destroyers in the Italian Tech Tree and will use a very similar build. Below is a recommended build for Luca Tarigo and the Italian Tech Tree destroyers.
Consumables
Luca Tarigo equips the following consumables:
- Slot 1: Damage Control Party
- Slot 2: Exhaust Smoke Generator – 3 charges
- Slot 3: Emergency Engine Power – 6 charges
