L'Adroit — French Tier V destroyer.
One of the fourteen French destroyers of the 1920s was the successor of the Bourrasque class. These ships were built to address the shortage of modern destroyers in the French Navy. New 130 mm guns and slightly larger dimensions distinguished them from the prototype. During World War II, the lead ship, L'Adroit, performed patrol and escort duties, but she was lost in May 1940 while covering the Allied evacuation from Dunkirk.

Player Opinion
Performance
L’Adroit is a Tier V French Destroyer, one of two Tech Tree Tier 5 French Destroyers, and being the start of the brand new alternative line of French Destroyers that revolves around torpedo destroyer gameplay, ending with the Cassard at Tier X. As opposed to her tech tree counterpart, the Jaguar, L’Adroit specializes more into a balanced playstyle, with a decent armament loadout, decent speed, and good concealment for the tier.
Armor
L’Adroit’s armor isn’t anything particularly noteworthy for the Tier, with the standard 10mm of all around armor that all Tier V DDs have. However, her HP pool is slightly above average at 12,300 Hitpoints, which can be buffed to 14,050 hitpoints with Survivability Expert. Additionally, L’Adroit receives the improved saturation of the mainline French Destroyers, which means L’Adroit can afford to take a few extra hits from HE Shells, although it does not work against overpenetrations from AP rounds. However, this comes with the downside of having no Smoke Generator, which means that the ship can become exceedingly vulnerable when caught out.
Armaments
Compared to Jaguar, L’Adroit has a slightly weaker armaments package on paper with one less main battery gun and worse torpedoes, with 8,533 torpedo alpha compared to Jaguar’s 11,267. However, L’Adroit has a way faster reload on her main guns with a 5.5 second base reload compared to Jaguar’s 6.6 second reload. L’Adroits torpedoes also have a slightly longer range of 8.0km and a higher base speed of 65 knots. The overall package is relatively solid for a Tier 5 Destroyer in terms of gun power but somewhat below average for torpedo power. L’Adroits gunnery puts her towards the top of the pack for Tier 5 Destroyers, only behind Jaguar, Gremyashchy, Hill and Nicholas in terms of DPM, with the ballistics being above average and the alpha damage and sustained DPM being quite high compared to most torpedo oriented destroyers of the tier. However, it should be noted that the rear firing angles are somewhat poor and she has a 40 degree blindspot to her rear on both sides, making long duration kiting battles somewhat risky. The torpedo armament is usable against a wide range of targets thanks to the high speed and good damage of the torpedoes for the tier, but the somewhat long reload means that without focusing too heavily into them they are a somewhat sporadic weapon in terms of usage.
Ergonomics
L’Adroit boasts relatively good handling and concealment amongst her tier mates, although she is significantly limited by a base speed of just 33 knots when most other Tier 5 destroyers will easily eclipse 35 knots or more even without a speed flag. L’Adroit captains will need to make good usage of the numerous charges of Emergency Engine Power Consumable that the ship has, which can take the top speed of the ship all the way up to 44.9 knots for 50 seconds, assuming that commanders are running the 4 point Swift in Silence Skill along with the Sierra Mike flag.
However, L’Adroit captains should not struggle too much with running, given that the ship boasts some of the better concealment for a Tier 5 Destroyer, with a base concealment of 6.6 kilometers that can be minimized to 6.0km, which allows commanders to stay undetected while conducting longer ranged torpedo runs, or allow them to quickly run away and disengage from a threat that they cannot handle. However, L’Adroit captains should be wary of the fact that there are a number of destroyers at this tier with similar or better concealment, which means that they can potentially end up being outspotted and killed without ever being able to get eyes on their pursuer.
Defensive Capacities
L’Adroit’s AA Defense is not noteworthy enough to speak on, with very poor DPS and short range that renders the ship vulnerable to attacks from any carriers that it can face. Her depth charges are fairly standard for the tier, with 8 maximum charges yielding a total of 24,000 potential damage, placing it towards the bottom of the pack for destroyers at Tier V in terms of dealing with submarines. The armament can be relied upon to deal with submerged destroyers whe needed, but it’s not as strong as some other destroyers of the Tier such as Nicholas, Hill or Acasta.
Performance
L’Adroit performs relatively well for a Tier 5 Destroyer. The decently rounded armaments combined with solid ergonomics package allows for the ship to perform a wider range of roles, especially compared to her tech tree French counterpart and premium counterpart. However, this comes with the downside of being unable to effectively trade against proper gunboats at the tier such as the Russians, the Americans, or the Italian Maestrale. This also becomes especially problematic when uptiered, given that L’Adroit lacks a smoke screen and her base speed is quite slow, and there is a high likelihood that the ship can get run down by equal or higher tier destroyers. Overall, the ships is a very solid hybrid destroyer that brings it's own unique traits to the table.Pros:
- Solid gun power that ranks towards the top of Tier 5 Destroyers in terms of DPM, alpha strike, and ballistics
- Torpedo armament has good speed, solid damage, and good range that allows for stealth torpedo runs
- Above average hitpoint pool for a Tier 5 Destroyer
- High speed when Engine Boost is engaged
- Engine Boost consumable has a decent uptime of 50 seconds and a fast cooldown of 90 seconds ( compared to most other destroyers with a 120 second cooldown )
Cons:
- Torpedoes have a relatively long reload of 90 seconds
- Gun firing arcs are relatively poor towards the front and rear when trying to use all four guns
- Ship is very slow when off boost, with a base top speed of 33 knots she ranks amongst the slowest of all Tier V DDs
- Concealment is middle of the pack for a Tier V Destroyer
- No Smoke Generator means that the ship can be rendered vulnerable when caught out
