Podvoisky — Soviet Tier V destroyer.
One of the draft designs for the first destroyer flotilla leaders in the U.S.S.R. Unlike destroyers built during the pre-revolutionary period, this ship had greater dimensions, a higher speed and more powerful artillery. Apart from that, she carried torpedoes of a larger caliber.

Player Opinion
Performance
Refer to the in-game Port screens for more useful data.
While the Tier IV Izyaslav introduces the Russian gunboat playstyle, Podvoisky transitions players to the "run and gun" her higher tier counterparts are known for. As one of the fastest destroyers in tier, she carries a noticeable upgrade in armament and survivability over Izyaslav, but her increased detectability range and size makes her a magnet for incoming fire.
Agility
Players will immediately notice the 20% increase in base speed and acceleration allowing Podvoisky to rapidly disengage from unfavorable engagements or quickly redeploy to reinforce flanks. Adding the Sierra Mike signal bonus and using her Engine Boost consumable Podvoisky’s top speed can be pushed to over 47 knots, making her very difficult to hit. However, Podvoisky is larger and heavier than her predecessor, and the second largest destroyer in tier. Rudder shift time increases to 4.5 seconds, placing her among the worst in her tier with the largest turning radius of all Tier V destroyers. While incredibly fast running a straight line, dodging incoming fire can prove to be challenging. Podvoisky has the worst stock concealment among all Tier V destroyers.
Armor
Podvoisky’s armor is nothing special. She has 13mm deck/side plating with 10mm fore/aft end plating including the superstructure. Damage from incoming AP shells will be from over penetration as the arming threshold is not met but she is still highly susceptible to incoming HE damage.
Main Battery
Armed with five 130mm single turrets, Podvoisky’s main armament is a substantial upgrade from Izyaslav. Shell velocity is among the top of the Tier V destroyers, with only the Visby having better. Reload time increases by 50% making one-on-one ship engagements risky without support, and not advisable for all but the lowest health ships in higher tier matches. Players comfortable with the previous tier's playstyle will enjoy the harder-hitting HE shells potential DPM of 76,000 and increased fire chance from 7% to 8% (about 3.2 fires per minute). AP shell potential DPM increases to 100,000 as the improved penetration values allow a better chance for citadels. The three forward and two aft turret arrangement gives Captains significantly better firing angles to bear down her HE on ships being pursued. With no significant increase over Izyaslav’s firing range, Podvoisky benefits from any upgrade to assist her in engaging targets from a distance.
Torpedoes
Short-ranged at only 4km, Captains would be remiss to overlook the potential of Podvoisky’s torpedoes. With a speed of 65 knots, they are faster than most tech tree destroyers in her matchmaking spread. Being the same 533mm torpedoes found throughout these tiers, they deal decent amounts of damage. Plenty of opportunities await players with map familiarity to make good use of them setting ambushes and finishing off low health ships caught without support.
AA
Players will see an increase in AAA strength over her predecessor, however it still leaves much to be desired. When playing against CV’s a cautious playstyle is recommended because of your low maneuverability and high detectability by air. While players may be able to down an aircraft or two, staying within AA coverage of teammates increases the chances of survival if targeted by an opposing CV. It may be worthwhile leaving secondary/AA guns off.
Consumables
Along with the Damage Control Party and Engine Boost consumables available to most of her peers, Podvoisky also has access to a Smoke Generator. Players can use the 77 second duration of cover to screen teammates traveling in open areas, disengage from unwinnable situations, or press opposing ships with HE shells.
Game Play
Pros:
- Extremely fast with great acceleration
- HE shells hit hard with decent fire chance
- Guns have 360 degree traverse
- Fast torpedoes that hit hard
Cons:
- Very poor concealment
- Slow rate of fire
- Very short range torpedoes
- Large turning radius
- Short main gun firing range
- Slow rudder shift
Research
Availability of researchable upgrades for Podvoisky is as follows:
- Hull: Upgrade to Podvoisky (B) for more health, improved maneuverability, and better AA. Research of this module unlocks progression to Gnevny.
- Torpedoes: Upgrade to 53-38 for increased speed.
- Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to GFCS V mod. 2 for and extra 10% main battery range.
Quickly research to Gun Fire Control System V mod. 2 for better range, as the Podvoisky has rather somewhat anemic range and it is vital for the player to keep their distance if they want to survive longer. If the player does not yet have Advanced Firing Training skill, then this module upgrade is a must. Then upgrade to the (B) Hull for increased health pool and better maneuverability, as your speed combined with your rudder shift will help you better dodge incoming enemy fire.
Upgraded torpedoes are optional, as they only increase in speed by one knot. Players low on credits are free to skip this module upgrade as it is not a necessary component towards researching and unlocking GnevnyOptimal Configuration

Consumables
Podvoisky can equip the following consumables:
- Slot 1: Damage Control Party
- Slot 2: Smoke Generator – 3 charges
- Slot 3: Engine Boost – 3 charges
Signals
It is highly recommended to at least mount the Sierra Mike signal to boost Podvoisky's base speed to 44.1 kts, which then combined with Engine Boost consumable can push the ship up to a max of 47.6 kts. Additionally, Victor Lima, India X-Ray, and Juliet Charlie are recommended to increase fire chance (+3% chance when combined with Demolition Expert skill) as well as to protect the player from being detonated. Furthermore, as the ship is very fast for Tier V, the player may find themselves charging an enemy battleship and have to ram the enemy ship, in which Hotel Yankee signal can be very useful.
