Louchuan is a Tier IX Pan Asian premium battleship. She is a direct copy of British battleship Lion.
Armament:
Louchuan carries nine 419 mm guns in three triple turrets. These guns have a modest range of 21.1 km with a decent 29-second reload but slower 45-second turret traverse. With Main Battery Modification 3, her reload time is 25.5 seconds, but her turrets are even slower, taking 51.7 seconds to rotate 180 degrees.
Due to her gun caliber of 419 mm, these guns can overmatch the 27 mm plating commonly found on high tier cruisers. Her AP shells have a reduced fuse time of 0.015 s, which is useful against cruisers to reduce her chances of overpenetrating their armor. Her HE shells have a 48% fire chance, and 105 mm of penetration.
Louchuan has acceptable accuracy for her tier. While she has normal dispersion for a battleship and a decent 1.85 sigma, she will still occasionally struggle to consistently hit targets.
Survivabillity:
Louchuan’s hull is weakly armored. Her entire hull is covered in 32 mm plating. While most battleships will not be able to overmatch her armor with AP, high caliber HE shells will penetrate with ease. Louchuan’s citadel sits above the waterline and is exposed. Players should be careful when turning broadside in front of battleships.
Louchuan carries the same Specialized Repair Teams consumable found on most other high tier British battleships. It has a short action time of 20 seconds, heals 2% of the ship’s maximum HP per second, and heals 75% of non-citadel damage taken. As she only heals 10% of citadel damage (including damage dealt by torpedoes that hit her torpedo belt), it is vital to not take citadel hits and to avoid as many torpedoes as possible, in order to maximize the efficiency of her Repair Party charges.
Her minimum surface concealment is good at 12 km. Her hull has a small HP pool of 67,900, and a low 25% torpedo damage reduction. As a result, Louchuan captains should play her at medium ranges where there is less risk of torpedoes and focus fire.
Maneuverability:
Louchuan has an average top speed of 31 knots with the Sierra Mike combat signal. Her rudder shift time of 15.9 seconds is average, but her turning radius of 830 m is decent. Due to her decent maneuverability, Louchuan is able to switch from kiting to pushing quickly, and to help apply pressure on her flank with decent speed.
Anti-Aircraft:
Louchuan’s AA DPS is relatively poor, although her mid-range AA DPS of 681.5 is very high. She has a low flak count of 5 and her maximum AA range is only 5.2 km. Her high mid-range DPS can shoot down planes, but cannot stop strikes entirely. Grouping with allied ships to overlap anti-aircraft auras is recommended in games with carriers.
Battle Performance:
Louchuan is a mid-range battleship that likes to play angled away on her flank, setting enemies on fire and punishing broadside targets with her short-fuse AP. Her decent speed allows her to reach positions and react to the current battle situation. Her low detection allows her to play closer to enemies and hit more shells while remaining concealed when necessary. As both shell types are useful, players should switch throughout the battle depending on the current situation.
While her Specialized Repair Teams consumable allows Louchuan to take sustained damage and deal with fires relatively easily, players must be wary to not take citadel or torpedo damage and avoid being focused down while it is on cooldown.
Overall Louchuan prepares players for the gameplay style of Conqueror, as a ship designed to hold flanks and pressure enemies with high alpha HE and punishing AP salvoes.Pros:
- High alpha damage HE shells with improved penetration and fire chance
- Shorter AP fuse time
- Strong medium-range AA DPS
- Decent speed
- Great concealment
- Access to Specialized Repair Teams consumable
Cons:
- 32 mm plating everywhere
- Small HP pool
- Above-water citadel
- Low torpedo damage protection
- Poor long range AA DPS and low flak count
