Special

Dunkerque B — French special premium Tier VI battleship.

After the signing of the Washington Naval Treaty, the design of ships of a new class began. In the early 1930s, a ship project was ready with eight 330 mm guns in two quadruple-gun turrets and a displacement of 26,500 tons. At the beginning of World War II, Dunkerque participated in patrol and escort operations, and then she was sent to the Mediterranean Sea. As a result of the attack on Mers-el-Kébir, the battlecruiser was heavily damaged and ran aground.

First available in late Nov 2021 during the Black Friday event.

Performance

Warning. The data presented in the AA Defense sidebar section may be incorrect.
Refer to the in-game Port screens for more useful data.

Dunkerque B, or Dunkerque Black, is a clone of Dunkerque with an attractive black skin.

Dunkerque B is unique among Tier VI battleships with her high top speed and entirely forward-facing armament. She plays extremely similar to North Carolina, Iowa, Nelson, or Izumo in that she is very durable when bow on, but has weak armor when broadside. Be careful to avoid close quarter brawl or static bow-on battle with other battleships early in the game as a well placed salvo can disable one or even both of her turrets.

Her guns have a high muzzle velocity with fast shell travel time, but dispersion can be annoying at times. She is good at killing destroyers and cruisers, but will struggle against a well-angled battleship in much the same way as Scharnhorst does. However, she can outrun equal tier battleships, so smart captains maximize her speed to decline unfavorable engagements, support their teams in killing enemy cruisers, and punish battleships who make positional mistakes.

Pros:

  • Best main battery rate of fire among Tier 6 battleships.
  • Good main turret traverse speed.
  • Excellent AP/HE shell velocity, good AP penetration.
  • All-forward turret placement allows Dunkerque B to retain her firepower while presenting a small, angled profile.
  • Secondaries are concentrated in the aft section, and can help against sneak attacks from the rear.
  • Fast, with an unmodified speed of 29.5 knots.
  • Good rudder shift.

Cons:

  • Only two main turrets, losing one can be an major disadvantage.
  • Main battery accuracy is fairly subpar.
  • High AP penetration can lead to over-penetrating thinly armored targets
  • Extensively covered in 26mm common plating, vulnerable to HE spam and overmatch from 380mm and larger calibers.
  • Large target with poor concealment.
  • Poor AA defenses, vulnerable to plane attacks.
  • Extremely limited secondary firing arcs when engaging targets from the front.

Research

As a premium ship, Dunkerque B has no module upgrades to research.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for Dunkerque B are as follows:

Commander Skills

Consumables

Dunkerque B can equip the following consumables:

Camouflage

As a premium ship, Dunkerque B comes with Default permanent camouflage and a set of permanent combat bonuses.

Signals

Combat signals that increase her durability are must-haves for Dunkerque B: India Delta (+20% to the amount of HP recovered when the Repair Party consumable is used.) and India Yankee (-20% to fire duration.) are highly recommended, and Juliet Yankee Bissotwo (-20% to flooding duration.) is not a bad idea, either. November Echo Setteseven (+5% continuous damage by all AA guns, +5% damage per second within the explosion radius of shells fired from medium- and long-range AA defenses.) can help shore up her naturally weak anti-aircraft armament, especially when paired with the Basic Firing Training commander skill.

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
