?===Historical Inaccuracies===+* ''Gangut'' is represented in original World War I condition, when she served with the Imperial Russian Navy. See ''[[Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya]]'' for the Soviet version.
?* In-game model depicts ''Gangut''’condition as of 1916. Her 1914 condition when she first entered service does not exist. See ''[[Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya]]'' for the Soviet version.+* Original AA armament of only one 76.2 mm Lender gun on the quarterdeck is missing.
?* Actual anti-aircraft suite as of 1916 consisted of two 63.3 mm Model 1916 and one QF 3-pounder Hotchkiss for ''Gangut'' and ''Petropavlovsk'', and two 75 mm Canet and one QF 2-pounder for ''Sevastopol'' and ''Poltava''. In World of Warships, however, ''Gangut'' is armed with an AA suite four times her historical loadout.+* AA armament as of 1916 consisted of either two 63.3 mm Model 1916 and one QF 3-pounder Hotchkiss (for ''Gangut'' and ''Petropavlovsk'') or two 75 mm/48 Canet and one 40 mm/39 Vickers (for ''Sevastopol'' and ''Poltava''). The whopping eight 75 mm Model 1892 AA gun configuration is a fabrication by Wargaming.

Gangut — Soviet Tier IV battleship.

Was part of the first series of dreadnought battleships built in Russia. She was armed with twelve main battery guns. The ship's features included a significant area of side armor and a general layout providing a full sideboard salvo at the widest possible angles.

Player Opinion

Performance

Coming from Knyaz Suvorov, Gangut is sure to feel like a welcome improvement thanks mainly to the centerline turret layout which allows 75% of the main battery to be fired while still giving favorable hull angles to deflect or absorb incoming fire. Captains who own either Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya or Imperator Nikolai I will find adjusting to this ship to be a rather pain-free experience due to their similarities. However, since Gangut is a tech tree Russian battleship, it does not have the longer range accuracy found on the aforementioned premium ships and instead must close the distance with enemy ships to land more than singular random hits. This is somewhat easily accomplished by her 23-knot top speed which ties Gangut for second-fastest BB of the tier alongside Kaiser, meaning she will be able to (slowly) run down or outrun most other battleships in her matchmaking spread.

Pros:

  • Good rudder shift time when upgraded to B-hull.
  • Superstructure is small and the ship's 32 mm outer plating makes her highly resistant to HE spam.
  • The main guns have good firing arcs, accuracy, and penetration.
  • Damage control has a fast cooldown.

Cons:

  • Detection range is higher than maximum possible firing range without commander skills and camo.
  • Same poor reload time as Knyaz Suvorov.
  • Slightly improved, but still poor AA defense.
  • High and under-protected citadel is easily hit if not angled. The ship's armour is ineffective against battleship guns.
  • No torpedo blisters means only a 9% reduction in damage from torpedo hits.
  • Damage control has limited charges.

Research

The research path of Gangut is relatively simple – players are encouraged to first unlock the (B) hull to increase ship health, anti-aircraft armament, and rudder response time, and finish with the fire control upgrade, which allows for a 10% firing range upgrade.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for Gangut are as follows:

Commander Skills

Consumables

Gangut equips the following consumables:

Keep in mind that while the damage control team is very efficient, it can be used a limited number of times before becoming exhausted.

Camouflage

Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for creditsCredits or the outstanding Type 59 for Doubloons; Types 2 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce the accuracy of incoming shells.

There is no standard permanent camouflage for this ship.
