? | + | While it may be tempting to invest in Hull (B) first, New York’s stock speed is pathetically slow and liable to keep her out of the battle for significant lengths of time. It's best to buy the upgraded Propulsion module first, then pick up Hull (B). The range boost from the improved Fire Control System module can be left for last.

? | Designed as a more heavily armed improvement over the previous Wyoming class, the New York class was the first battleship to feature the 14"/45 caliber gun, but was one of the last battleship classes designed with several features, including a five-turret layout and coal for fuel. The class also suffered several deficiencies such as a lack of anti-aircraft weaponry and armor layout, which were addressed with the subsequent Nevada class. Because of these deficiencies, both ships saw several extensive overhauls over the course of their careers which greatly changed their profiles. | + | Designed as a more heavily armed improvement over the previous Wyoming class, the New York class was the first battleship to feature the 14"/45 caliber gun, but was one of the last battleship classes designed with several features, including a five-turret layout and coal for fuel. Both ships undertook numerous training exercises and overhauls during the interwar era, and joined the Neutrality Patrol at the beginning of World War II. Outmoded by more advanced battleships in service, both ships served primarily as convoy escorts and naval artillery during the war. New York supported Operation Torch in North Africa, undertook convoy patrols and training in the Atlantic, and supported the Battle of Iwo Jima and the Battle of Okinawa. ===Historical Inaccuracies=== | ===Historical Inaccuracies===
? | New York' | + | * In-game model is actually Texas, recognizable by the circular windows on the bridge. New York had square windows. The mainmast also has a gap between the searchlight platform and the Movie Operating Platform below it. New York had no gap between the platforms. However, Hull (B) still does not accurately represent Texas’ early-war refit; both ships shared the same anti-aircraft configuration.
? | * | + | * New York’s AA defense is heavily downgraded from its historical version. For example, not a single quadruple 1.1" or 40mm Bofors mount exists on the ship. See Texas for the historical version.
? | * | + | * Hull (A) represents New York after her 1926-1927 modernization. Her original 1914 configuration is missing.
+ | * Hull (B) is a heavily downgraded version of New York’s 1943 refit, when she first received the 40mm Bofors. The four Bofors guns should be in quadruple mounts, not twin mounts. New York was also still carrying four quad 1.1" mounts; all four are missing. Of the 42 single 20mm Oerlikons, 34 are missing.
+ | * Not represented is New York’s 1941-1942 refits when she carried a total of eight quad 1.1" (28mm)/75 AA guns.
+ | * Permanent camouflage is actually the historical camouflage of USS Oklahoma, a Nevada-class battleship. It was an experimental pattern that was applied to the ship in 1917 during World War I; New York is in World War II condition.
+ | * New York’s Measure 31a/8B camouflage is missing. She wore this pattern from late 1944 to early 1945. The same pattern can be found on her sister ship Texas.
+ | * New York was painted in Measure 12 (modified) from early 1942 to 1943. From April 1943 to late 1944 she was in Measure 22. Both camouflages are missing.
+ | * Aircraft catapult for OS2U Kingfisher floatplane on turret #3 is missing.

New York — American Tier V battleship.
Developed from the Wyoming class. In contrast to her predecessor, she featured reinforced armor and main battery guns of a larger caliber. When upgraded, she received reasonably good AA defense and improved torpedo protection.

Player Opinion
Performance
Pros:
- She has one of the heaviest broadsides in her tier, with ten 356 mm guns in five twin turrets.
- Compact and well armored.
- Upgraded AA is significant for tier and a major hazard to Tier IV carriers.
- Decent dispersion at mid-range, making her deadly against enemy cruisers and battleships.
- Much more heavily armored and armed than many of her counterparts.
Cons:
- Stock hull is a downgrade from elite World War II Wyoming including ineffective AA and secondaries (even when upgraded), poor penetration, and extreme sluggishness.
- Sluggish top speed of 21 knots.
- Torpedoes have a higher chance of causing detonations due to the magazines all along the hull.
- Very narrow full salvo firing arc, which means captains must show her broadside or forget about using her third turret.
- Armor scheme is tough but can be tricky to use.
- Similarly to the predecessor Wyoming, hull B makes the secondary battery weakest in the game for a battleship, with only 3 slow-firing, short-range barrels per side.

Upgrades
New York only has a handful of upgrade slots to fill.
Slot 1 is most commonly filled with Main Armaments Modification 1 , though Auxiliary Armaments Modification 1 is a popular pick for captains who go for a full AA build with other upgrades and commander skills.
Slot 2 has one choice for battleships - Damage Control System Modification 1 . This will reduce chances of fire and flood.
Slot 3 has only one option that is recommended, Artillery Plotting Room Modification 1 , as this improves the firing range of her main battery which will be of good use when facing ships of a higher tier.

Consumables
New York can equip the following consumables:
- Slot 1: Damage Control Party
- Slot 2: Repair Party
Camouflage
Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 2 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce the accuracy of incoming shells.
Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip New York with Type 15 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, and increases the amount of experience she earns. An alternate permanent camouflage ("Skull") is occasionally available that paints her hull entirely black with a white skull on either side of her bow.
Signals
New York can mount up to eight signal flags simultaneously. Captains should mount Sierra Mike () flags to increase the ship’s top speed. India Delta () flags are highly recommended to increase the amount of hitpoints the Repair Party consumable can recover. India Yankee () flags are also recommended to reduce the time required to put out fires. Lastly, economic and special signal flags can be mounted to increase the ship’s experience and credit gain per battle.
