Tier VIII Pan-Asian premium cruiser 'Wukong shares many features with Tier VIII French cruiser Charles Martel. She is equipped with hard-hitting deepwater torpedoes and the Torpedo Reload Booster consumable.
Armament:
Wukong carries nine 203 mm guns in three triple turrets. They have a stock 10.5 s reload, 17.6 km range, and a slow 180-degree traverse time of 25.7 seconds. Her HE shells are identical to Charles Martel’s — 2,800 damage, 34 mm penetration, and 15% fire chance. Her AP shells have average penetration and alpha damage of 4,900. Her shells have long flight times at longer ranges. She can play behind islands to remain concealed while firing, but can struggle to hit agile targets at longer ranges. Due to her good fire chance and range, Wukong is best played at a distance, harassing ships with constant fires and HE shells.
Wukong carries six deepwater torpedoes in two triple launchers, one per side. Her torpedoes deal 18,400 alpha damage, with a 12 km range, a stock reload of 107 seconds, and 64 knot base speed. Like the Pan-Asian tech tree cruisers, Wukong uses deepwater torpedoes, with a very low detection of just 0.8 km. Enemy ships will have little time to react or dodge torpedoes that aren't spotted early by their allies or Hydroacoustic Search. However, they are specialized at dealing damage to larger ships, and cannot hit destroyers or submarines. While her torpedoes deal very good damage, it is not advised to invest into them due to Wukong’s high concealment and limited torpedo range. However, she can launch her torpedoes while remaining concealed.
Hull:
Wukong’s hull is visually similar to Charles Martel. She has a base health pool of 38,000 and a top speed of 32.5 knots. Her maneuverability is average, with a 9.8-second rudder shift and a 690-meter turning radius. Her surface concealment is decent, with a minimum concealment of 10.8 km. Wukong does not have access to the Engine Boost consumable to increase her top speed and acceleration.
Wukong has standard armor for a Tier VIII cruiser, with a 25 mm bow and stern and 27 mm deck. Her deck can bounce 381 mm AP shells, but higher caliber guns will still overmatch her deck plating. This provides some protection against many Tier VIII battleships. Her citadel is long and extends above the water, so players must be careful when showing broadside. As she shares Charles Martel’s hull, Wukong’s rudder is prone to incapacitation.
Consumables:
Wukong carries a unique consumable layout of Defensive AA Fire , Spotting Aircraft , and Torpedo Reload Booster.
Wukong has three base charges of the Defensive AA Fire consumable, which increases continuous AA damage by 50% and flak damage by 300%. It has a 40-second duration and an 80-second cooldown time. Unlike Charles Martel, she cannot swap Defensive AA Fire for Hydroacoustic Search.
While Wukong lacks Charles Martel’s Main Battery Reload Booster , she gains the Spotting Aircraft consumable that increases her main battery range to 21.1 km.
Wukong carries three base charges of the Torpedo Reload Booster consumable, which reduces the reload of all torpedoes to 8 seconds at the cost of a long 240-second consumable cooldown. This allows her to fire up to 12 deepwater torpedoes at once, increasing her torpedo threat against large targets. It is best used against enemy ships that are pushing.
Anti-Aircraft:
Wukong has low long- and medium-range AA DPS — 45.5 and 210 respectively. While she does have the Defensive AA Fire consumable, her AA DPS is still lackluster. She also only has two flak clouds, so she is almost entirely reliant on her continuous AA damage to shoot down planes. This is not enough to stop an aircraft carrier from striking, so grouping with allied ships to overlap anti-aircraft auras is recommended in games with carriers.
Battle Performance:
Wukong is best played at mid to long ranges, while being able to shell enemy ships with her good HE and long main battery range from behind islands or in open water. Her average armor and slow speed make it critical to not overextend and play at range, where she can disengage using her concealment.
Deepwater torpedoes and Torpedo Reload Booster are interesting additions but ultimately do not provide much difference in play style. The added torpedo power can provide additional damage when kiting away from enemies, but are useless when chasing them.Pros:
- Good rate of fire
- Hard hitting deepwater torpedoes
- Decent rudder shift and turning radius
- Decent concealment
- Access to Defensive AA Fire
- Access to Spotting Aircraft
- Access to Torpedo Reload Booster
Cons:
- Slow turret traverse
- Loses Engine Boost and Main Battery Reload Booster
- Only six torpedoes
- Limited torpedo range
- Slow speed
- Rudder is prone to incapacitation
- Poor AA DPS
- Low flak count
