Dresden — German Tier II cruiser.
After building small ships equipped with steam engines, Germany began producing warships featuring turbines. During World War I, SMS Dresden, the lead ship of the new class, saw action in the Battle of Coronel as part of von Spee's squadron and in the Battle of the Falkland Islands, where she was the only German warship to escape destruction. Dresden raided the South Atlantic and Pacific until she was intercepted by British cruisers. In the battle that followed, the ship was scuttled, and the crew escaped to be interned in Chile for the duration of the war.

Player Opinion
Performance
The Dresden is the beginning of what German cruiser players should expect, paper thin armor, and large amounts of AP damage but small amounts of HE damage. The thin armor and small amounts of HE damage make it suicide to face off against battleships and make it nearly impossible to hunt destroyers. Where it shines is in cruiser hunting, the AP damage on that she can cause can whittle down other cruisers with ease. Even the USN tier 3 cruiser St. Louis can buckle and fall under the constant fire from the Dresden of you play your cards right. However, you should keep in mind that the arc on the Dresden's shells are incredibly high, meaning that you will have to lead your targets more than you would normally give them. The arc makes it impossible to hit destroyers at range if they are maneuvering, but it allows you to shoot over islands and penetrate the thin deck armor that most ships of her tier have. Avoid getting into 1 on 1 firefights as you will lose due to the Dresden's thin armor.
Pros:
- High rate of fire for guns, as well as having 5 guns on each side, comparable to the St. Louis
- Somewhat fast for a cruiser of her tier
- Good rudder shift time
Cons:
- Suffers from the recurring German problem, paper thin armor.
- HE shells do extremely small amounts of damage and AP is practically worthless.
- High shell arc
